6.1 The Honeymoon's Overboard

September 30, 1998

After falling overboard from their honeymoon yacht, Fran and Maxwell wash up on the shore of a beautiful but uninhabited island. When news of their disappearance reaches home, C.C. and Sylvia charter a helicopter to find them. Meanwhile, the newlyweds battle hunger, wild animals, poisonous insects and even each other in a desperate attempt to consummate their relationship. The frustrated couple finally shares a moment of passion -- and Fran's very vocal response proves instrumental in their rescue. Written by: Frank Lombardi. Pilot: Ray Abruzzo, Reporters: Lisa Stanley and James Edson

Our responses (78) gave the episode a 8.7 overall, a 8.3 for the comedy, and a 9.1 for romance.

Well I gotta say, what a season opener! WOW! I really really enjoyed this weeks show. I was very impressed with everything! I thought the story was fairly solid and VERY sexy, and I thought it was very well acted. I loved the romance scenes with Fran and Max and I thought Peter did a good job of directing it for Primetime (ie the fire). I also really enjoyed CC taking advantage of the media. I thought Fran looked UNBELIEVABLE - her outfit was fantastic and her hair looked REALLY good too! Overall I was thoroughly impressed, and the next couple of shows look very promising as well!

I loved the show. I actually thought it was a fairly good honeymoon. I couldn't believe it when C.C. came down the stairs. It was good to see the kids in the show. I hope the writers keep them in there. I give the show a 9.

Thanks, Frank! You can borrow from the wish list anytime! (Please do!)

I'm really excited about what's beginning to happen between Niles and C.C. This love/hate relationship is just the ticket for the sixth seaon, there's no telling where these two will end up!

Get me a cigarrette! As Fran said "Whoa" Max in a sleeveless shirt. Oy what a body! It wasalso very funny and I'm glad they used some of our suggestions from the "Wish List" (Niles and CC waking up together). Maybe they'll listen to some others! All in all, quite "satisfying" all around. Stick me with a fork folks, I'm done!

What a great way to start the season :-) A great combination of comedy and romance, brisk pace, excellent direction (way to go Peter) and of course a fantastic script (hoo-ha Frank). Loved the N/CC stuff - now please don't let it just disappear. Loved having CC back to "normal" - she stole the show... again. PLEASE keep reading the wish list! 9/10

What a start! This show STILL beats anything else on in the funny and romantic departments. If this is any indictaion of the 6th season then it's gonna be a GREAT one. Kudos to the cast and to Peter's Directing and Frank's writing too!

Where to start? Of course, being the Niles/CC fan that I am, I was *DELIGHTED* with the portrayal of my two favorites!!! :-) I think the writers are back on target with them! I'll admit I had my fears, but I am VERY pleased with what I've seen tonight! Now I've got to wonder if they really *did*...well, you know...
Anyway, WONDERFUL with Fran and Max on the island. I LOVED how Fran nursed Max back to health. My hubby wondered at that whole scenario, but I explained that they were showing how Fran isn't a ditz as she's sometimes portrayed, because when push came to shove, she had the wherewithal to save Max's life. KUDOS TO THE WRITERS ON THIS EP!! And even more kudos to the directors/cameramen/whomever who are responsible for the incredible camera angles and scene shots. The whole show has a completely different feel, and all the changes are most *definitely* for the better! I've fallen in love with "The Nanny" all over again. Once more, I'll be counting the hours every week until each Wednesday at 8pm rolls around! THANK YOU NANNY CAST AND CREW!!!

Overall I think I thought it was a great episode. I can hardly wait for next week. I thought the scenes were Fran was nursing Max back to health were especially touching.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!!

Loved this one! The Niles / CC / Santa Claus bit was hilarious...glad to see they've shifted the romantic tension further in that direction. The part on the island with Fran nurturing Max back to health was soooo great!

wonderfull!very exciting!

LOVED IT!! ESPECIALLY FRAN NURSING MAXWELL BACK TO HEALTH!! And Maxwell looked extremely handsome as usual!!

What a great show. I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the wedding. What a wonderful mix of comedy and romance. Fran really showed her love for Max when she had to nurse him back to health. And leave it to Fran to have her vocal response while they were "doing it" aid in the rescue. We couldn't ask for anything better. The looks they exchanged at the end and the way they went up the stairs was priceless. I can't wait for week 2.

Terrific season opener. Loved Fran nursing Max ( & loved Max in the torn shirt - Charles must have been working out alot this summer !). The writers struck a nice balance between focusing on the Island scenes & the scenes at home & the results were a great combination of comedy & romance. Also loved the last scene of Fran & Max sprinting up the stairs.... Great episode - Keep it up guys !

What a great season opener keep up the good work. This episode had it all romance plus a ton of comedic moments.Loved the CC/Sylvia hellicoper fight and the serious side of Fran we saw with her nuturing Max back to health.

After waiting for this episode for so long, I was a bit disappointed. I love all your fan fiction and I think some of your stories were better than this. I also am a bit confused by the time and space aspect of this story. It takes place in the Caribbean yet they end up at home in New York within a seaminly short time. How did they get there?

A very funny, romantic way to start off the season. Interesting how they plan to keep us guessing on Niles/CC relationship without telling! Nice blend in the romance dept. and full use of cast. My only complaint was the one joke which really wasn't needed and edged toward crossing the line. Here's hoping the writers continue "fleshing" out the fun in marriage without stepping over the line!

I have to admit I was little worried about this one. I thought it was going to be some sort of Gillian's Island RIp off with a bad runninmg joke about how loud Fran is. I have never been so happy to be wrong. The only disappointing part of the show as that they did not explore the did they or didn't they question for Niles and CC (though Niles saying that he had a nightmare about Santa Claus trying to have his way and then CC coming downstairs was too funny). And I loved watching Fran taking care of Max. THat was so sweet. I loved watching her put the wood in the fire and laying down with him. I also noticed that Brighton was really well dressed.

What a great episode and start to the season! I was so happy at the way this went. :-) Fran and Max are so sweet together and I hope the rest of the season keeps up that heat! WOW! Max looked amazing, what a body! The acting and directing was awesome, and I hope they keep it up!

YAY!!!! :)

I enjoyed this ep. emenselly. The Children involved, Niles-CC, "getting things finally done" on the Island. Yes, I did enjoy it...

.....and the judges give it a perfect score!!! What else do I have to say? It all was a great show!!

LOL! Well done! I was rolling on the floor over Niles & CC and it was great that to finally see some FIRE! ( Literally! :-D ) Can't wait to see what madness we'll be treated to as these two try to adjust to married life!

i want to be fran drescher. you are my best friend fran.

There was not enough romance in this show and the dialogue during the part where Fran was to suck out the poison from Max's insect bite was offensive. I didn't like the way Max acted or spoke to Fran on the island; he seemed somewhat verbally abusive.

What a fun episode! It was great to see everyone again. Fran and Max were so hot looking. Very clever plot line with the insect bite. Loved Frans reason for being able to stay afloat! C.C. and Niles were great together--I liked how they were able to comfort each other and still keep the friction going. Hope Fran doesn't get pregnant too soon--I'm enjoying the passion-filled moments too much.

Although Fran's saying "Oh Mr. Sheffield" at the end was totally hysterical, the rest of the show seemed a little campy.

I loved it I loved it, espically the Niles/CC thing at the beginning :) YAY!

That was awesome! I can't wait for next week's episode. They look so good together! Her hair and make-up were perfect! This is going to be an awsome season!!!!!!

I totally loved this episode! It had it all! Charlie and those ARMS! Hoo-baby! He can tear that dress off me any time! ::blushes:: So anyway I loved it and I think they're off to a great start. Here's to another great nanny season!

If the first episode is any indication of what's to follow, then I know where I'll be each Wednesday night. I guess the question of the season will go from "Will they or won't they?" (Fran and Max) to "Did they or didn't they?" (Niles and CC) Keep up the good work.

Oh My G-d. Max is buff! Holy geez, he must've worked out, what a great bod. I loved his "Sweetheart, I'm DYing," and Frans "Ok, I'll get your twigs. Gee, I never worked this hard for him when I worked for him" The best part was when Fran lay down by him and put his arm around her. Awww.... the dirty joke was crossing the line for a "family show", but I thouught it was LOL funny anyway.

Not at all like the zillions of fanfics, but very funny. Niles and C.C. are the funniest ever. "This is not going on my resume!" YAY!!! Best one yet.

All I have to say is WOW!!! Now I really wish I was Fran Fine! ;) Thanks to all the writers/producers/directors and of course the cast of this terrific ep! Thanx to the cameramen for their terrific camera shots. Charles, what an INCREDIBLE body! Fran looked great as always! Brighton looks VERY handsome this year as well. Niles/C.C. bit with Santa Clause was great although I don't understand why they hugged after his crack on her in the living room. Loved this ep. Keep it up!

Very exciting! wonderfull

I've already commented but I have to take some issue with some things that were said. I don't find Max's attitude or verbiage to be abusive. He TOOK CHARGE!!! Someone had to . Fran was too busy kvetching and concentrating on herself and not the big picture. As for the dirty joke- I've heard worse on Mad About You and Friends. It was a throw away- if you got it okay, if not okay too. Remember this entire episode was centered on SEX, not a walk in the park. Other episodes have alternative plot lines but this one was leading up to only one conclusion so we knew it would be more PG-13.
I DO agree that Bgihton looked wonderful and as for Max - my fantasies have never been that good. Has he been working out or what?
I believe that Niles and CC hugged after he put her down, but I think this shows a new growth to their relationship and that they have admitted that they really do care. I've watched the episode three times and each time it gets better and better.

OK, this HAS to rate as high as the wedding. It had so many things I LOVED...(and thanks for listening!)
Santa CC and Niles...Max ripping off Frans gown...Max and Fran arguing and Max taking charge (really funny)...Sylvia not eating all the time (although ONE comment would have been ok)... Max and Fran "in flaming passion"...Involving the kids in the storyline...NO gratituous guest star...Everyone staying in character...Fran and Max running up the stairs...YES YES YES!!! (to quote Fran)
I wanted to see Fran and Max wake up together "the morning after" on the island and show them getting rescued. It was too abrupt to have them just suddenly show up at home...WE WANTED MORE HONEYMOON!
Conflict, Comedy, Mystery, Intrigue, Romance, Passion and everyone looked GREAT!...It looks like we are off to "Nantastic" start!! BRAVO

I've already commented but 2 buddies who are both RCMP, ( Royal Canadian Mounted Police or " Mounties" for those of you who aren't Canadian), wanted me to pass on their opinions too. They said to tell everyone that they get a big kick out of the show, thought Fran looked really 'hot" this week ( their words) & Niles & CC are a blast. ( They also suggested that if the real Fran ever comes to Canada, they'd be happy to "protect & serve" her ). Enough said.

The only thing unclear to me now is who loves who more??! 'Bout time these two got together! Hats off to the start of a fabulous season!!

I don't find Max's attitude to be verbally abusive, it was funny! He had to take charge, she was complaining and it was bugging him. And you knew it wasn't a bad thing when Fran slid the dress off her shoulder and said, "all right" (with the rolling eyes thing). Just that line had Emmy written all over it. I think Fran is due for an Emmy. That line was so well-said.

Very funny!!! I'm glad to see something between Niles and CC finally. It was classic Sylvia in the helicopter.

Hi there! I'm a crazy Niles and CC Fan. I was normal before I saw the 6th season premiere. Niles and CC made me crazy, because they were so COOL in this episode. It was extremely funny to see that they woke up together in bed the morning after the reception. It almost killed me, so good was it! I think every Niles and CC Fan (myself included) is hoping that they really did the ''deed.'' And I'm hoping very badly that CC should figure out that she's PREGNANT this season. Further I'm hoping that we should see a lot more of Niles and CC's relationship this season. I really can't wait until the next episode! And Ms Drescher, thank you very much! You don't know how happy you made us Niles and CC Fans with this episode! Please go on with this good writing! Keep it up! And please stay reading the good ideas of Nanny Fans on the Wish List!

It was pretty good could of been better.

Everything I expected, and lots more! This will prove to be a fantastic season!!!! ;)

Great season opener! It was so sweet how Fran nursed Maxwell back to health! I loved it! I think the writer's should now focus a little more on the Niles/C.C. relationship, they will be an interesting pair to watch! Great job cast and crew!! Thanks for a great opener!! :)

Is the best SHOW on earth. I canīt say more

Well we are off and running!!! I just hope the show can keep this wonderful quality up. I loved this show and everyone seemed in character. Those two are soooo sweet together. I just worry that now one of them will be type-cast as always being wrong and the other always right. A real marriage isn't like that because you can be wrong somethings; the trick is not to really hurt the other person when they are wrong, so they will be nice to you when you are. I hope the writers know that.
Anyway, great beginning... what's next???

After waiting so long for the new season, I needed to rewatch the episode before commenting-- and I basically agree with all of you who thought it was a great start to the sixth season and Fran's and Max's married life. The show was beautifully filmed and well directed-- and both Fran and Charlie looked gorgeous. Loved the interplay between Niles and C.C., which sets up some promising future possibilities. Sylvia was fine, maybe even a bit toned down, which I often thinks she needs to be. The kids' parts were fine, especially Brighton's and I hope they'll be used lots more this season. As for the island moments, they mostly hit the right balance between romantic and funny, given the pressure of the eight o'clock hour. I loved the "The Glory of Love" musical interlude when Fran helped Max regain strength, another example of the music really working to enhance the plot. After some of the discussion and speculation this summer, I'm glad to see that the writers brought them back off the island fairly quickly-- although I wish they had had the 36 hours in the Caribbean honeymoon that Sabine and Anne wrote about so fabulously-- before plunging back into the swirl of family and business life. One complaint-- the first time through both scenes where Max is harsh to Fran seemed excessive and inconsistent in character. I understand the plot device on the island where he basically shocks her into an end of complaining, although I think another approach would have been better. His sarcastic undermining of the story of how Fran knew what to do when he was bitten just seemed mean. Many of us complained last spring about the scenes in the reunion show and the best man, when Max seemed cold and unfeeling-- hope this can be avoided in the next episodes. Still, this premiere was well worth the wait-- the show still has so much promise and I now have more confidence that the staff can write stories with romance, warmth and humor for Fran and Max as husband and wife.

I really enjoyed "The Honeymoon's Overboard." I thought it was very funny and I have to say that all episodes that I have seen are all my favourite and people look at me funny whenever I say that "The Nanny " is one of my favourite shows.

I love this show **so** much, but even through my half-biased perceptions, I can see that this episode wasn't that great. It all seemed off-kilter...I don't know if it's the acting, the writing or a combination of both that differs so strongly from earlier season episodes, but it's very distinctive. Oh well, I suppose they have to take it in a different direction sooner or later. Things I liked: dressed-up Niles harping on C.C.'s conscience and the monkeys at the end. How cute!

I loved the part when Fran takes care of ill Maxwell and helps him to walk again. It was very romantinc, including that beatiful song (glory of love).

Great show and glad to see new ones on Channel 10 finally! Lots of funny moments and lots of romance. Loved the music, too! My only complaint - Channel 10 sensors are at it again. If you never saw the US version then you wouldn't know that they cut out about 10-15 seconds of Fran and Max 'finally' consumating their marriage. Fran said "Max, Max, oh Max, oh Max" (or something like that) before she says "OH, Mr. Sheffield!". I guess 6.30 is too early for all that passion! ;-) Shades of Prozac! Otherwise the start of something big!

I thought it was really funny!!!! But I though it could have been a bit better. But still LOVED it! CC was really funny! Max! well WOW what a bod!!! working out over the break really paid off!!! oh ahhh! And fran amd Max with their sicasim was great! The best I thought was when they played the song!

I noticed the censors at work too, but then I suppose the show was rated G so they had to tone it down a bit. Personally I prefer to have TN eps with a bit more comedy in them, but since this was the honeymoon, I suppose its ok. Overall not so bad but a tad mushy.

The highlight for me was the music, top notch as always.

CC and Niles: "Santa Claus was trying to have his way with me!" I like it!! The only point in this ep which concerned me was when Max went a little agro at Fran during that stick collecting scene... Max's reaction was a little freaky!! I agree with the previous post about the monkeys!! Very cute!!

6.2 Fran Gets Shushed

October 7, 1998

Maxwell and Fran Learn to Compromise on "The Nanny"
Fran becomes furious when Maxwell tells her she is too boisterous in the boudoir. When Maxwell shushes Fran on their first night together in their bedroom, she hits the roof, refusing to keep her voice down. They resolve the argument by agreeing that the key to a successful marriage is compromise, and Fran vows to be more demure while Maxwell promises to be less uptight. They try to adopt their new personalities during an important business dinner at which Maxwell is trying to win the rights to a new book. But changing their behavior only makes them bicker more and has a disastrous effect on Maxwell's book deal, which teaches the newlyweds a valuable lesson -- the secret to a happy married life is accepting each other's differences. (CBS Press Release) Written by Caryn Lucas. Wendell Kent: Ray Stricklyn, Father Joffrey: Christopher Winfield.

Our responses (64) gave the episode a 6.0 overall, a 6.6 for the comedy, and a 5.5 for romance.

"10"

All right, the scenes with Sylvia I saw coming a mile away, and before the break I was like, "Vanilla.." but BOY! did the bathroom scene save it all! It was great! I laughed so much! And something I noticed... They look so happy!

WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING????This is the first show I've actually hated! The show started out fine , there were a few LOL jokes but then NOTHING!!! It died on the vine (no pun intended) I am so disappointed I could just scream. I'll list my complaints
1.Why di they still have CC look so pathetic that she is still in pursuit of MAxwell?
2. Fran is coming off like a whiny, nasty B***CH. I don't like this change of attitude at all.
3. The kids were wasted.
4. Sylvia is STILL EATING!!!!
5.Why would Fran run to her mother's home after a small tiff unless this will be a constant thing shewill be doing as a plot device- She just could have run to her old room and they could have worked it out .
6. What is with Charles' hair? It's morphing more than David Duchovny's!!!!
7.Niles had no good lines- even when he got that time off from Fran. The relationship between the two of them now is not quite right.
8.No CC/Niles banter- I say again, CC came off looking really bad in this one (Although she has lost alot of weight and looks great for a woman who just had a big baby.
9.The funeral was not funny- were they trying for a Chuckles the Clown moment?
I feel that the series has lost its direction. I saw "Kindervelt Days" on the reruns today and saw why I fell in love with the show initially. If thius was the first show I would have ever seen I would never see another. You guys know how I feel about this show and I am frustrated, angry, and upset that they forgot how to write. (Maybe they should look at some of the Fan Fiction- we all write better stuff than what they gave us tonight!)

UGH! What can you say about an episode whose best moments were the new "Welcome" and "Stay Tuned" clips that feature both Fran and Charlie? File this one away with "Fran's Roots"; we have a new example of an episode that rates only a 1! That one point is for the scene with Niles giving Max sound advice as usual. My husband and I have been hoping that the demise of "Seinfeld" and "The Larry Sanders Show" would lead to Daniel finally getting an Emmy nod this year, but that will be hard to promote when his gems are buried in garbage like this.

No Niles & CC scenes?! Whats up with that?! Thought the bathroom scene and bedroom scenes were very funny though!! I hope the writers remember those of us that love Niles & CC banter and get them back on the right track!!

What a let down after last week! This ep started out pretty well...and went downhill from there. The bit with Niles listening at the door was pathetic. I also did not like Fran's falling on Maxwell's writer...how lame! I'll keep my hopes up for next week!

Where are Niles & C.C? I would prefer more (or at least some) banter and or romance between those two!!

I enjoyed this ep, though not nearly as much as last week. At last someone told CC to get a life and Im glad it came from Fran. Overall very funny, the whole concept of the guy dying was a little steep but funny.... which is, when you think about it, the purpose of a sitcom. Great directing. But the romance seemed too restrained to be enjoyable. Glad they gave Maggie a lot of lines, now we just need more eps concentrating on the kids. By the way, when are Fran and Max going to stop having fights? In every episode since the engagement they were either in some fight, or the wedding was in jeapordy. I want to see them get along, prove to us their marriage can work without a fight in every episode. Ya know?
Best part: when Gracie said "Kidding" and Fran fake-slapped her. you think that was ad- libbed?

My husband and I just LOVE "THE NANNY" very much and hope and pray that the program stays for another 100 episodes, I have been recording it for years and I have almost all of them, and the ones I don't have, I am glad they are showing reruns, We can watch THE NANNY over and over again even the ones we have in our collection. I guess you could say that We are Fran and the rest of the cast best of the best fans, you could possibilly say that We LOVE her and the cast with all our hearts. YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT. Thank you for asking

Once again, the cast all look stunning! Of course I'm going to say MORE NILES, MORE C.C.!!!! That said, I think it was well-written and my hubby agrees! Funny thing to write about, Fran being loud and them trying to change themselves for each other yet it not working. Just goes to show you how perfect Max and Fran are together just the way they are!

While this episode had some very funny moments (I LOVED Sylvia & her "gun," the confrontation between CC & Fran, & the bit with Max & Fran in the bathroom), I thought that the romance end of things could have been resolved a little better. And did she have to KILL the guy? A broken arm would have been enough to put off the deal. The whole scene at the funeral made me cringe. Still, for the most part, it was very funny & I enjoyed the contrast of Fran's uninhibited style to Max's . . . "not."

I thought this episode was a scream and will go down as one of my favorites. So many moments I liked I can hardly list them all. Fran running home to mama so upset, but not upset enough not to notice the Zesty Italian on the chops! Then sticking a sweater over the nightgown hoping the kids won't notice her sneaking home and Maggie's reaction to the thought of her parents wanting the house alone. And Charlie in a t-shirt and jeans! Be still my heart. The bathroom scene was great---and though I was a little shocked at ending up at a funeral, I thought the banter there was terrific and funny. And the tag, with Niles grabbing the escaping Fran telling her she had to face the music, was cute and indicitive of the new relationships. Overall, another winner in my book!

This episode was uneven. Not bad just odd.The opening scene started out well, but like some of the others commenting, I thought that Fran didn't have to run home to Sylvia (that was a bit weird) & Niles listening at the door seemed a bit "warped" in this instance.
The garden scene was nice & the kids scenes were good, especially Maggie's reaction to why Max & Fran wanted the house to themselves . On the wardrobe side - Charles looked excellent in both the jeans & the Tux ! ( not too sure about his strange hair styles though - they were a bit "old guy" or "retro lounge lizard" but hey I guess everyone has a bad hair day every once in a while ?). Fran's black dress was both elegant & daring (at the back) & her hair is much better this season .
The bathrom scenes at the party were hilarious ( I loved the "sssssssss" & "you have two choices: " yell for help or learn to go in front of your wife" lines)- but then the writers literally killed the comedy element when they had Fran "kill" the writer- That & the funeral scene should have been scaped completely. I'll chalk this one up to a slightly "off" week & hopefully things will be back to "excellent" next week.

I though this episode was really very weak and I was very disappointed in the way it was carried out.I think there were a few comedic moments but the show really lacked substance.I hope this is not an indicator of things to come.

This one was a bit of a let down after last week... I would have expected a little more romantic fun before their fight, especially after that great scene of them running up the stairs. I really liked the bathroom scene, but thought the funeral thing was kind of lame. It would have been funnier to have her land in a garbage bin.

A very funny, solid episode! Geez, people....lighten up! (And as for the person who said: "Maybe they should look at some of the Fan Fiction- we all write better stuff than what they gave us tonight!" While that's a nice compliment to "our" authors, and perhaps you were just trying to make a point, IMO, that comment takes a lot of chutzpah. It's quite a challenge to write a story, that is funny, in a 22 minute script format. From what I've seen, only a couple of "page" authors seem capable of doing that).

I can't say that this was one of my favorites but still not bad. I expected something different then what I got, I don't know what but, well.... OY, get back to the Nanny that we all know and love..... this one was just frustrating for me.

I enjoyed this episode very much. This show is based on BROAD comedy, so for me the physical stuff is a hoot. Fran falling onto the writer was hysterical. The reason the episode worked was due to two things - Fran and Peter. Fran's performance was really on (and yes, I think the fake slap was improvised, and wonderful!) and Peter's direction... all I can say is Dorothy who? Caryn Lucas is still a mediocre writer at best but Peter really got every ounce out of this so-so script. I liked the interaction of Fran and Max as a married couple adjusting to each other's VERY different personalities. As Niles noted - passion, even in anger, is preferable to passiveness (except when it crosses the line, like in last week's ep. - can we get a balance here?) ....... As for the negative stuff - I do agree that the fat jokes have got to stop (lame is right!) and PLEASE give CC some dignity! She should be over Max from way back in season 4 already! The lack of Niles/CC in this is my only big complaint. For a lot of viewers, they are the main reason people tune in - PLEASE don't squander the enormous talents of Lauren and Daniel! 7/10

Is it just me, or has the romance dissipated rather rapidly? As far as the comedy elements were concerned, the show was pretty good (the scene in the bathroom was hilarious), but I don't think it will be one of my favorite overall episodes. One thing I did notice was that Charles is participating in the little promos (fillers?) before the show and before the final segment. I like that. ;)

From sublime to ridiculous. The idea of exploring differences is an appealing one when well written...this wasn't. Not only unbelieveable it ventured on crossing the line between crude and whining. Maybe they should rewatch the episodes in the beginning to see how much fun writing about differences can be. Disappointment reigned but everyone is allowed a misstep once in a while.

About my Chutzpah!Thank you very much! I do and continue to feel that this season especially when the competition is so tough, the writing should be at its finest. Many have agreed,(and for all the others, I respect your choices although I might not agree with them),that this script was very poorand its execution although valiant was not good. I have cooled down from last night but I'm still disappointed. Another point or two I still have to make:
1. A good point- Charles in the tee shirt and Jeans -Oy be still my gonads!
2.WHY was Charles wearing so much in the bedroom when it was his first night alone with his new bride in their bedroom? I don't mean he should have been nude but he could have shown a liitle more enthusiasm for the moment (Maybe bare chested with the sheets on top letting OUR imaginations run wild?)
3.Why is Fran falling so much? This is a redundant plot device- she never was a real klutz before.
4. Niles was totally wasted.
5.They are newlyweds, I'm sure those of uo who have been there, or even in a hot new relationship can relate to this. They've been married for what a week? And as far as I can tell, they've only "Done it" one time and that was on the island. Five will get you ten, she'll now become pregnant probably in two weeks during the Sarah's parents episode. What happened to Max's libido and his comments about 36 hours I hope things change
6. Since when did Niles become a voyeur? Why would he be spying on Fran and MAx on essentially their Wedding Night at the house? He was always a Yenta, butthis boarders on nasty.
7. When CC said that she was still after MAxwell, she kinda crossed the line in my book. Maxwell is now a married man, that is verboten!!! When he was single or even engaged I could still see her trying but again, this is a little over the top.
Again, to the fellow fan who commented about my declaration about the Fan Fic- Yes, I do believe that there are some writers on that page, maybe not I, who could really give TPTB a good ,solid funny script(Sabine, Michelle, Frank, Julia, etc) Maybe Peter should start looking us up if their writers have lost it!And after yesterday's debacle, I think they're pretty close!

One of the worst episodes I've seen.

Extremely disappointed would be an understatement. It wasn't funny killing that guy off. Fran and Max looked like they were being too forced in their differences. NO NILES AND CC BANTER AT ALL! I just hope this was a bad ep and not an example of what's to come.

After seeing the honeymoon and this episode I am really upset because at the rate the writers are going, this will be the last season. Sometimes I feel like I am watching a completely different show that the one I fell in love with. I did enjoy the scenes with Fran and Max in the bathroom and on the patio, Fran's fake slap, and Maggie's "Eeeewwww", but everything else was just mediocre. I hated the fact that Fran killed the guy! Does anyone else enjoy morbid humor, cause I sure don't? What were the writers thinking and who were the idiots that let them film that? Charlie's hair looked awful although I do like Fran's. Her nightgown was not attractive though, and not the most flattering! I just hope the show will be better in the next couple of weeks, it's just so sad to see it come to this after so many wonderful episodes.

I really disliked this episode. I found very little humor in it and the serious/dramatic scenes made me uncomfortable. Fran falling off of things is a trend I hope ended last night. The only part I liked was Daniel Davis' line about the stretch limo - "so I can (pause) lay down". ROTFL. His comedic timing is superb. My biggest complaint? NO NILES/CC!!!!! Come on, that is what I tune in for every week. If we can't get a little sick/twisted romance from these two, can't we at least get the barbs? (sorry Barb - no pun intended) And Fran, please let up on CC. Sure she's still going to go after Max, we expect that from her. But the comments in the premiere about the dead wife were tasteless, even for her. And the comments about her not giving up were just too pathetic. Frank Lombardi, Rick Shaw, we Niles/CC fans are counting on you guys to save our favorite demented (but lovable) couple. Don't let us down.

This episode seemed different than the others. It was NOT one of my favorites. I hope that next weeks will be a TON better. But I have to say that they showed the kids more...??!!

I'll try to be diplomatic but...I didn't like it at all! Its great that they're giving Maggie a life but why not CC? I don't consider myself a Niles and CC fan but her obsession with Max is getting as old as Sylvia's eating jokes. Why not an episode were Max finally tells CC enough? Niles is no better in this one either. The eavesdropping at the bedroom door was kinda gross.

What is this all about? It is a sitcom, we are supposed too be entertained and enjoy it. Which I most certainly did. From the opening credits to the end. I even enjoyed the funeral bit. Fran telling Max about changing each other, or the Bloodshed will not stop. Funny, funny, funny. And that dress...well all I can say is if I could wear a dress like that and look as good. Well life would be almost perfect...
CC will always be after Maxwell, it is her character, no one will ever be good enough, other than herself. I enjoyed how Fran was toned down abit for this ep. The "Demureness" or her character, this was hysterical. As it was so contrary to type.
While it is a stretch of the imagination: first night at home and she goes to Mommy. Where else would Fran go! She always goes home to Mommy. It is her defined character. I think this was one of the best eps. Niles was her friend in this. They played off of each other very well. Shades of the earlier seasons. Very much a keeper one to watch over and over.

I'm really not that impressed with The Nanny this year; the shows are too bizarre. I wish the writers would get down to the business of Fran & Max's relationship with the children, as in real life, this could present some difficulties. It was in very poor taste that Fran accidentally killed that man and that part could have been eliminated; she could have done something stupid for Max to lose the deal, but the fact that she killed someone can and will make the viewers look at Fran with a different perspective. I don't think this program should be airing in the 8 p.m. time slot, as I feel it's a bit risque for younger children.

Wasn't sure what to put...Then I read some others and realized that I am NOT alone in stating that I think this episode was pretty bad..... I didn't laugh nearly as much as I usually do. C.C./Niles....What happened? The kids lines were cut dry... Where is Yetta?????? Where is Val's hilarious lines???? What are these writers doing???? To much latte???? If they want this show to survive..... They best get busy!

IT WAS FUNNY. The guy was old, he would have died soon enough anyway. (Kidding, take no disrespect) Yeah, what's with Max's hair? He should keep it short like in season 4. That was better. More Niles and CC I'd say too, but let's give them a couple eps to work out the kinks in Fran/Max's new relationship.

I loved the promos/fillers with Max in there too!

Oy! I have never heard such kvetching and whining in my entire life!! First of all, I have to say that I have hardly ever laughed so hard watching a television program in my life as I did watching this particular episode. Yes, the comedy in this particular episode was broad, had a lot of the physical in it, and was, in some cases, a little crude. So what? For those of us who have lived through the same period of adjustment, and, in some cases, some of the very same problems, it was hysterically funny... Even my sister, who generally dislikes TN, was howling her head off at the bathroom scene (said it reminded her of her first husband). We have to remember that this is a comedy, first and foremost... if you want smut or sentiment, go read fan fiction or romance novels...
Second, when it comes to seeing more romance in the episode, I'm not sure what it was that people really thought they were going do? Did people really think that they were going to see Fran and Max rolling around in bed? Get real!! It ain't gonna happen during the family hour, not on CBS!! After all, NBC (NBC, for God's sake!!), which is much more liberal in the kinds of sexual situations that they will allow in their shows, just pulled a show script for CITC (Caroline in the City), which, by the way, airs an hour later, because they were uncomfortable with the issue of the two main characters in bed together... And we're dealing with uptight, stuffy CBS...
And, third, speaking as someone who has written fan fiction, and who admires the effort that the fan fiction authors put into their work, I want to say that, no matter what the writers for the show do, good or bad (and I'm the first to admit that I don't like everything they do), not a single one of us is involved in writing 22 to 26 scripts in a three month period, trying to cram a lot of action into a measley 22 minutes. As fan fiction authors, we have the luxury of ignoring the time constraints that the show writers have, and of being able to do things that Network Standards and Practices won't allow.
Now, on to my comments about C.C. You've got a woman who's been chasing after a man for years... Psychologically speaking, she's not going to stop on a dime. As with any other loss, you go through a process... starting with denial.
I'm obviously in a minority here, but I enjoyed the episode...

I was very disappointed in this episode. Usually I love to rewatch the episode but I didn't even bother with this one. When are Fran and Max going to stop fighting? I didn't feel there was even any resolution to their fight in this one. And I really didn't like Fran killing the guy. That plot device belongs on Seinfeld, not on the Nanny, which has always had "heart." I would have also liked to see *a lot* more romance...at least a suggestion that they're spending some time alone together...

Amen, to everything (whoever wrote that real big paragraph) said!

Well, I've watched twice and I'm still not sure how to comment. The basic plot premise was a good one, since we all realize how different Fran and Max are and that, despite their love for each other, they have a lot to learn about marriage and about living together. But I thought a lot of opportunity was squandered in the bid for the more outrageous humor. I can't believe that Fran would rush home to Sylvia five minutes into their first evening together at home. I agree with the earlier posted observation that Fran and Maxwell don't need to have a major fight in every episode, but that's what the writers seem to be giving us for plotting and comedic/dramatic interest. (A related point-- I really didn't understand the timing of this episode. The blue helicopter suits were thrown over a chair in the background in the bedroom and the dialogue suggested that they'd just been rescued and come home, so is this what happened after they raced upstairs in 6.1? And, if they were expected to be away for two months, and suddenly returned home, how was it possible to arrange a major business dinner? Something's skewed.) I also thought it was a bit extreme for Fran to say to Brighton and Grace that she and Max wouldn't be getting a divorce -- again that seems to push the issue too far. Personally, I don't care for the body and bathroom humor on the show, so I didn't see why Max's inability to "tinkle" while Fran was in the room should become the issue to illustrate their need to compromise. I know the show is at 8 o'clock, but that doesn't mean the humor should be at third grade level. I also agree that Fran could have harmed the deal simply by injuring, not killing Wendell-- too far fetched and too bizarre. I missed the interaction of Niles and C.C. and want more scenes for the kids. (I'm hopeful for the upcoming show on adopting the children and Sara's parents-- they better not goof that one up!) I also agree with an earlier poster that something really is strange with Charles' hair. So-- where are my positives? At least they are married and expressing their love; Fran and Charles look great together and in some scenes they looked very happy. I also thought that the episode occasionally hit a good balance in Fran's and Max's interactions; they are newlyweds, but they have lived together for five years and not every moment will be one of high passion. (though I wanted some more of those.) I also really liked the tag scene. The interplay of Niles and Fran was cute and Max's recognition that Fran actually saved him from a major financial disaster echoes familiar themes. Their uniform "may he rest in peace:" shows that Max can be both British and Yiddish-- and I thought that highlighted that he was willing to compromise in the relationship. So, overall, I felt slightly disappointed-- and am hoping for much more in the next several weeks. They need to get this right or the ratings could be trouble.

I must be from another planet because I really liked this episode. I've been so eager to see Fran and Max together that it was delightful to see them having a relationship. C.C. was amusing with her new "nutsy" belief that she still has a chance with Max. The kids were capable in their small rolls, there wasn't too much of Silvia, and Niles was the only part that seemed boring to me. C.C. looked good in the black outfit, and Max's hair is going more natural (curly). I was thinking maybe he should grow a moustache. Anyway -- have some friction between Niles and C.C. thrown in there, and give the kids something to do, and that will help things -- in my opinion.

Not a season premiere but still pretty funny. The bathroom scene was hilarious!!..."I'm your wife!" "Yes, and I love you very much but I'm from Britain and no one there goes in front of his wife!!"

ok we have to realize that they are married now (newly of course) but there are going to be some nervousness and distractions at home, I thought this show was great and I'm sure there will be a lot more romance in future episodes coming up and it will be when we least expect it, like next week if you read showes coming up that Max calles her the nanny again which hurts her and he'll have to make it up to her (there we go see romance again) so what they have to do is adust to married life just as they had to adjust to him being the boss and her the employee living under the same roof and really fallin for each other but trying to keep anyone from finding out. If anyone say her on the talk shows doing the promo's for this season thats what she said too, and then we will get the "I think I'm pregnant" thing and that will be funny as all get out with her getting fat and thinking she's unattractive and him still trying (and probably succeding) in loving her to let her know she is even more beautiful because she is carrying their baby. This show is one of the best out there so give them some time and it will take off, I think it has aleady. A truly devoted Nanny fan. I also like Fran and Charlie doing the promo's at the beginnning and end of the show now. I also want to say Peter is a great director and the writing which I'm sure is difficult is mush better than some other sitcoms out there airing at the same time slots on different nights of the week.

Extremely disappointed in this past week's show. I hope it's not a sign of things to come.

I never thought I'd say this but it was the first episode of The Nanny I couldn't sit through. I hoped it would get better but instead it was nothing but tasteless. I saw no redeeming qualities at all. If the writers are trying to cash in on gross-outs like Something About Mary, they don't know the fans of this show. I'll give next week a chance.

I have to admit that I did not like this episode. I felt like this was a "cut and paste" Episode. They had several ideas, and just put them all together. While there were some things that I laughed at, this episode did not really give me the enjoyment that I have grown to expect from the show. The beginning in the bedroom just seemed somehow, off. I can't explain it. Then she went to her mother and I didn't understand that (nor did I laugh, but rarely will I laugh at a Sylvia scene). Niles coming out of the bathroom should have been funny, but I expected that. I did like his advice to Max. Seeing Max in jeans and a tee-shirt, that made the episode worthwhile. Fran telling CC to get a life was good. The bathroom scene and the funeral, I didn't like. Then it was over.

Okay....so it wasn't the best show.....but I don't think it was the worst(although I shouldn't say this....I have only seen the last two and a half seasons and I only see every other show in syndication, because I only get one airing per day)Anyway, sure there wasn't as much romance as last week....but this is only the 2nd episode of this season....in every season(we of the ones I've seen) have these type of episodes that sometimes people like and others don't.... because if everyone agreed on everything it would be a very dull world!

as far as i'm concerned sylvia can keep eating and talking about food if that's what it takes to have renee taylor appear on screen. god love her. this episode was mediocre, fran's delivery of "demure" was priceless, but sadly nothing topped that. the tone was slightly hystrerical and the accidentental death felt like another show altogether. now that the two are finally hitched - let's see the kids and fran's interaction with them. it has provided some the funniest and sweetest moments. Season four became repetative with "taking it back" jokes every five minutes. let's not have fran and max bicker all season. the series is funnier and livlier with fran riffing with niles,cc,val, sylvia, yetta andf the kids. i can only look forward to next weeks episode. the competition is fierce, don't lose the strong fan base with a weak season.

The Show was pretty good, loved the bathroom scene!!!

BOORING!

I enjoyed this ep, especially at the beginning when Fran says "...in my bedroom, in my twenties..." them Max laughs and she laughs and they fall back on the bed. THAT's the Fran and Max I want to see. I love the cutesy stuff, it makes them seem happier together.

I won't write a book but for once, when my children interrupted me while I was watching The Nanny, I didn't get upset. That just about says it all. The bathroom scene kept it from being a total waste of time and that's about it, in my opinion. Heavy sigh.

Hi ya all!!!
Well I'm writing to congratulate everybody who wrote, I'm writing from CBS PR, I know this wasn't one of the best episodes, but it still had its points.
Well as for the next episode you can expect a lot from what you ask for, the kids, N/C.C, and Fran and Maxwell. As for the fightings, sorry but they will keep this for a while, thats kind of what characterizes the show.
And from behalf of all the nanny cast thanks so much for your ideas, THANK YOU:
CBS's PR

1. Fran and Max's disagreements are the glue that hold the blue collar/blue-blood THEME of the show together. If you want cutesy-happy, watch a soap.
2. Max was dressed as he was in his bedroom because he is UPTIGHT which is what the enitre episode was about! Poor Charles - a trained Shakespearean actor and all you guys want to do is gawk at his half-naked body. If that's what's important to you, go watch a soap.
3. Fran is a physical comedienne (and a genius at that), so get used to the broad comedy and schtik. It's be the backbone of the show for 5 years. If you want reality-based action, watch a soap.
4. The characters on the Nanny are cartoonish because they are NOT supposed to be realistic! They are caricatures of real life - that's the style of the show. If you want real people, watch a soap.
5. The Nanny is NOT a televised romance novel. The show is a COMEDY. It does not revolve around, nor is it obliged to give you, kissy-face touchy-feely every episode. Its obligation is to make you LAUGH. If romance is your number-one obsession, watch a soap.

This is the first episode I honestly hated! I've seen a few bad ones...but this was the first one I haven't rewatched over and over after taping it. Thumbs down, Fran!

LOVED Fran's hair in this episode! Bravo! to the "watch a soap" person. And to whomever said Caryn Lucas was a mediocre writer, I got two words for you: The Wedding.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this episode was a little off. I enjoyed the tag scene until she decided to run off to her mother's. That could have been handled differently. The hightlight was when Fran told CC to get a life. The only positive thing I can say about this episode with absolute certainty is MAX is BUFF in jeans and a t-shirt.

The worst TN episode ever! It was crude and bizarre. I don't want a soap opera either but for a comedy it wasn't funny at all. If it can't do that, we're in deep trouble.

All I ask out of the Nanny is a funny, or at least amusing, 22 minutes. The cast gave its best effort but the script was weak. Even the Simpson's, a real cartoon, has true to life characters. TN's characters are cartoonish at times, but they are three dimensional human actors. A little humanity is what we expect.

side note to: CBS PR, since you are reading our comments, Please Listen. Give Fran equal billing to your Monday shows. How can you gain an audience when you pre-empt The Nanny for specials like country awards and then never even show Fran or Charles face during the pre-emption. Let's see more of Fran or Max on CBS, and not just 22 minutes on Wed. nite.
Anyway: OK, so we must be different, but we really liked this episode!! especially the part about Max being so prudish in the bathroom. We laughed so hard at them getting locked in together! A Classic Fran moment. I guess you have to be married to appreciate the humor there. It is great to have CC going thru denial and helps keep consistency to her character. Loved seeing Max and Fran together in the promo and at the end. Really establishes them as a couple. There will be lots of party moments with Max and Fran trying to fit in, so I look forward to more scenes like these. I hated that Fran ran to her mother after arguing with Max. NO WAY, not after 5 years...Where did all the passion go??? Max would never let her leave in a heated moment like that. Get a hotel..OY! Fran will never get pregnant at this rate. Niles listening just affirms that they will have problems being alone in that house. When do we get a desk scene? Funeral scene was morbid, but worth the line, "we tried to compromise and now an innocent man is dead!" Hey what can I say, we were rolling during this show, it was unexpected, outrageous humor!

The episode was surprisingly poor- story line did not flow well- quite disappointing

Agreed, the timing was a little off and Max should not have let Fran go home to her mother, to her old room maybe, but not her mother. Except for the funeral scene, all in all a funny episode of adjustment in a changed relationship. When do they get to spend some time together?

well, I have to agree with the majority that this was a very weak episode. Something was just off. Someone else wrote that it seemed "cut and paste" and I have to agree. Fran seemed different, I can't put my finger on it, though i loved the bathroom scene. The funeral was'nt that bad, but just not quite right, and Niles and CC did'nt even appear in the same room...what a shame!! Lauren KLane and Daniel Davis are the reasion I watch the show!! What talent!! I do enjoy Fran and the rest usually, and whoever said that no matter what the show always has heart was right...except for this week. Maybe there was some time contraints with the actors for some reason or another and they did not have time to put on the normal show? I dunno, i'm perplexed. Or they have not figured out how to handle the marriage thing. I hope this was a one time bad episode or you can bet this is the last season. That would be awful!! Just my opinion.

I agree with the Watch A Soap person. I laughed so loud at this ep, it was not bad at all. Niles at the door listening, was funny as heck. I was rolling!! "...except for this Yenta..."

I liked this episode much better then last week's. I think that with the pressure to create a really fabulous season premiere/finale, recently the jokes take second best to the money spent on location and storyline (The Wedding excluded!) For me, the second episodes always display a bit more focus on the intrinsic aspects of the show, which I love. That said, I really liked this episode. Fran and Max were good together (although Fran did overreact just a bit with the 'shush' thing...oh well, it was a main storyline) and I liked how Fran interacted with the kids, it was very motherly/friendly. I thought Fran not being too upset about killing the writer was a bit out of character, remember when she ran over the rabbit in The Car Show? She was devastated! You'd think a human being would warrant a little more sympathy! :) All up, a fantastic episode!

It was great up until the bathroom scene when Fran fell off the balcony. I guess it's the kind of story line that can only happen in a sitcom.

I loved this episode! Especially the line:
"I'm going home to my mother!"
"Well, why don't you just wait until breakfast? She'll be here anyway!"

So I finally got to see the episode that caused so much consternation and 'negativity' with US fans. Along with a few, though, I must also be in a minority. I enjoyed almost all of it. This episode had some 'classic' Nanny moments. The bedroom scene, the scene with Fran and Sylvia and the one with Max and Niles, the one with Fran and CC and the best, the one in the bathroom! (My husband won't 'tinkle' in front of me, either - and we've been married a long time! - Thank goodness he doesn't read these pages!!!!) So maybe killing the guy wasn't the best move. (Personally, I thought amnesia would've worked just as well.) Actually, the only scene I found totally unbelievable was the tag. Except for the comments "You're his wife now" "Tell him I've gone shopping!" I wondered why a Broadway producer would acquire the rights to a play he hadn't read???

OK I couldn't quite pick what was wrong with this episode...so I watched it again, and again. My original feelings were that the episode did not quite flow the way we have come to expect TN eps to. And Fran's character seemed..different. I came to the conclusion this was because of a drmatic attitude change. Previously, the Fran we knew was constantly gettin into trouble and running away from Max. Now she seemed confrontational and more aggressive....a vast change. All that said, the episode itself was not too bad, but they could have done better
