5.21 The Best Man

May 6th, 1998

Hello Darling!
So how ya been?

Fran learns that while she was entertaining a proposal from Nigel, Maxwell had his eye on Marla Maples.

Maxwell celebrates his last days as a single man at a wild bachelor party, and Fran gets some advice about marrying a millionaire from Marla Maples, who guest stars as herself. While his brother, Nigel, is in town planning Maxwell's bachelor party, Maxwell discovers, much to his chagrin, that Nigel proposed marriage to Fran the previous year. Feeling betrayed, Maxwell confronts Fran and demands to know why the proposal was kept a secret. Just when it looks as if the wedding is in jeopardy, Fran learns that Maxwell had a fling with Marla Maples at the same time. Meanwhile, Nigel throws a wild bachelor party for Maxwell and everyone attending has a blast -- except the groom. Written by Rick Shaw. Nigel: Harry Van Gorkum, Herself: Marla Maples, Genevieve: Yvonne Scio, Delivery Boy: Jovan Rameau.

Our responses (36) gave the episode a 8.4 overall, a 7.8 for the comedy, and a 8.3 for romance. Some comments received were:

I enjoyed this episode a great deal. I felt that it was honest dealing with relationships (even though Nigel comes off a quite the buffoon- but who cares about him?).Maxwell was a little warmer and showed how deeply he loved Fran and she finally was open and honest with him about his prior vacillating behavior. The use of "bashert" was perfect because if you're Jewish you believe that that IS the way things are supposed to go (Trust me -I know!) Mazel Tov to Fran and Max- Can't wait for next week!

Well for once in forty five years I was right about something. The writing in this was top notch a nice blend of comedy, romance and those jitters we all get when life pops into fantasy. Kudos to making this all jell and perfect lead in to wedding. Interesting to see how well they are working with CC too. If they continue writing this well we have nothing to worry about.

Really liked this ep.! It flew by - before I knew it, it was over. Very good handling of the subject matter and working out of the "problem" between Fran and Max. They covered alot of ground here and I'm so glad to see Max as a flawed human being. They even addressed a new "cured" CC and once again, Niles is the one who ends up "getting some" LOL! Marla was a good guest - not too much screen time. The whole thing was well written, directed, and acted. Best ep. since Dinner Party, IMO. Thanks, Rick :-) 9/10

10!!

If Maxwell Sheffield acts bitterly "cold" on his wedding day I'll scream!!! If it was not for his "too british" ways, I'd given the show a 10...... I did enjoy the supporting actors as usual, and was soooo glad to see C.C. back!!!

Good episode. Very funny and good use of everyone in this one. Did feel that Max acted like a jerk by his attitude concerning Frans and Nigels involvement while his affair with Marla was not considered by him as wrong glad Fran pointed that out to him and rubbed his nose in it! Glad things worked out for the best as I knew they would.

I thought the show was great....

I gotta say that I was one UNHAPPY person last night! Here it is, one week before the wedding, I'm all set to rejoice in the final demise of that darn elephant, & it felt just as if someone had picked up the gun & shot the bride & groom fulla holes! I kept screaming "What have they done?!" ( ask my husband ;-) ) But, I waited 'till morning and rewatched "Tart With Heart," "Affair to Dismember," & "Fran's Gotta have it," BEFORE daring to rewatch "The Best Man" and post my two cents. Now I'm trying to come to grips with the idea that Max is not a saint & maybe could be excused for an indescetion in his fahmisht attempt last season to decide just what he really felt about his children's nanny. As Connie pointed out to me, it was Fran he took to the opening of his new play & Fran he decided to marry. Sure lends a whole lot more significance to that Bee Gees song they played in "Affair," & Max's line "You're more than a one night stand," in "Fran's Gotta Have it." I still don't like his attitude about the whole thing, though. What a hypocrite he is!! And he barely batted an eyelash when Fran handed him back the engagement ring! I'm not sure yet, that CC wasn't right in her assessment that Fran is "the biggest doormat there is." A real thought provoker here, & maybe better handled earlier in the game, but I guess that's showbiz.

Hard to rate numerically because my feelings were so mixed. There were things I liked (in the first 17 minutes) , but , overall I was hugely disappointed. Probably b/c I thought F/M were finally getting somewhere in the dining room scene -- F was finally saying the things I'd been screaming at the TV for two yrs and I was thinking, "YES! FINALLY!". They started talking about REAL ISSUES, but then they dropped the ball all the way around. To paraphrase a sentiment expressed last night in chat , it decended into She did it, he did it, so everything is ok. It was Max you should have been seeking F after the din. room scene and I hated the whole Marla device at end (guests spots at their worst). Why can't F confront M and call him on his behavior on her own? (and the Marla situation was not satisfactorily clarified for me) Basically, F lets him off the hook. I didn't dislike the ep. as *intensly* as some people I know, but for me the resolution overshadows any good earlier in the ep., leaving me thoroughly disappointed (and thus a little angry only one week before the wed.) (in fact, it barely registered with me that they both said 'I love you' in the same scene) Shame on you, Rick, Fran, Peter, et al!

What a great episode. It was a nice mix of comedy considering the subject matter. I think they finally showed how much they love each other. And what a great kiss at the end, finally some passion. I was glad to see it was Fran who took off the ring, not Max asking for it back. I think it shows that Fran is really breaking through that "British Interior". He never really wanted to call off the wedding, he was just in shock that it was with his own brother. I can't wait for the wedding, but are they ever going to have some private time where someone isn't listening or watching? From everything I've read so far, I think the wedding will be well worth the wait.

I thought this was the best episode of the season--tens all the way! If I coulda, I'd have given it 15's (heck, maybe I will, who'd know?) The episode flew by, with jokes thrown in just where they needed to be to lighten the moments, and lots of "meat" to chew on in between. I didn't think Max came off too bad--they never said he really DID anything, just like Fran never did anything. And I thought he reacted about like a man would. When she pointed out that he was being a jerk and holding her to a different standard than he held himself to, he got it, and they made up. I just loved it. But that said, of course I have a couple nits I just gotta pick. Sylvia DID know about Nigel--she was the one that told Fran not to do anything when she was so confused in "Affair to Dismember", but, hey, I can live with that one. Nobody but those of us with episodes on tape would catch that one. The other nit is the Nigel necklace. I know Fran Drescher has a deal with DeBeers, but to the fans, that is the Nigel necklace, and IMHO, she has no business wearing it without explanation.

Interesting that we all have such divergent opinions on the last two episodes. I was one who really disliked last week's and thoroughly enjoyed this week's. I loved that this issue finally got brought out in the open, loved the fact that Maxwell got angry (can't blame him for that) and that he admitted that "the thing" makes him feel bad and guilty. And so it should! One thing I'd love to hear is him admitting that he was a fool to waste so much time. (If he ever admits that to Fran, I'll die happy!) Overall, I thought this was a good one. I liked seeing Nigel again and Niles and his green jello covered garters cracked me up. It was so good to see Niles and C.C. back together again. No show is really complete without her. On to next week! I'm dancing inside!

I thought this was a great episode!! I know Maxwell may have been sort of cold towards Fran, but he was terribly hurt. I have felt sorry for him ever since Fran and Nigel almost ran off together. Maybe I'm just prejudice towards Maxwell because I think he is so adorable! But I think the kiss at the end was worth it all and very passionate!!

I loved this weeks episode. I was glad to see CC back.

Another vote for the " too uneven" side. There were parts I liked & parts I thought were rather lame. Amoungst the "lame" were: Fran not just confronting Max about Marla herself - We all know Fran can hold her own aginst Max - why not in this instance ? Like some of the otherswho've commented, I think Max's reaction likely was "typical" for a guy, but in the last few episodes he has become the most "on again off again" ( he acts like a jerk then he "sees the light") guy on TV ( Mind you Charles' acting has been excellent in spite of the scripts)..... How about letting him be a bit more even keel for at least an entire episode ? On the plus side - C.C.'s line about "the Harmful side effects of her treatment" ( being nice), was really good & I did like that Fran explained why she turned to Nigel after Max had seemingly rejected her & how Max had no right to expect she'd wait forever... & I really liked the ending when she explained they were "meant to be" .... .ln general, the episode was a bit frustrating but I'm an optimist & I hope the wedding runs much more smoothly.

Since I'd been stewing ever since I saw the description for the episode, I guess I should be relieved that the extreme interpretations proved to be unfounded. Maxwell's "affair" with Marla doesn't seem to have been too serious, and I guess I'm now convinced that the plot offered a way to deal with issues that should come up before a wedding. The last scenes in the office were the best in my book. I also thought that the few scenes with C.C. proved yet again how essential she is in that part. Niles and Sylvia made an effective team, moving toward the wedding that it is as much their goal as Fran's. Val again had some great moments, though last week's Val wins the prize. Now I'm ready for the wedding and hopeful for next season.

Well, I was disappointed with this episode. Maxwell came off to me as a big hypocrite, and Nigel a flake. I was glad Fran gave back the ring. I think more could have been done in the working thru this issue of "faithfulness". I just hope the the wedding episode will have Fran and Max together 'against the world' instead of each other. I did like the "It's back on! Praise the Lord!" bit. And the Wedding promo during the credits was a great teaser.

I thought that this episode was one of the best this season. It was hilarious and at the same time dealt with some serious issues from their past. I loved how Fran brought up taking back "the thing" and Maxwell admitting that it made him feel bad and guilty. When Sylvia said that she was going to throw herself in the Hudson River and Fran replied "Flooding New Jersey isn't going to solve anything" I got hysterical. That was one of the funniest lines I have ever heard! I also loved the end in the office when Fran told Maxwell that they were meant to be, and WOW what a kiss! Can't wait till next week!

I didn't find this episode terribly funny or romantic, but the situation at hand seemed to unfold in a realistic way, and that should count for something. Two things I DID like were Max & Fran saying, "I love you" at the same time and Max being the one to put Fran's ring back on her. (both suggestions made here in posts here during recent weeks). Also, am I the only one who noticed they used the dining room for the first time since the season premiere? (Another suggestion previously made here!!). Looks like somebody's paying attention to us! If so, here's one more suggestion- stop having Niles & Sylvia keep interrupting Fran & Max- it's KILLING the romance score! Overall, not a bad episode.

At first I thought the ep. had completely sucked, but I have reconsidered a bit. A so-so ep., it had it moments. Wedding next!

I gotta say I've been hesitant to comment on this one, I was disappointed in this ep and after reading the first few posts which were so positive I figured I needed to give it some time and another look.... I'm still not all that impressed with this one....some parts were great...the scene in the office at the end most notably, and even the dining room scene. The rest was largely forgettable...particularly Marla's appearance(s). I agree with the others that Fran should have confronted Max with his hypocracy herself. I also agree that Niles and Sylvia need to give them some space! On a postive note, CC was great!

I LOVED the idea for this one, a sordid affair from Maxwell's past and Fran's past engagement all comes back to haunt the happy couple. It would have been absolutely fabulous had this not cast doubt upon the very foundation of Fran and Maxwell's relationship. Max came off like a real jerk in this one... he was not even concerned when Fran gave back the ring and was perfectly willing to accept the fact that his (frustratingly ambiguous) 'fling' with Marla was OK while he could not forgive Fran for the engagement to Nigel. Is Max trying to get out of the wedding? Fran would have walked out any other day. I just we expect so much more from both of them, especially this close to getting married. At least they made up at the end, but disconcerting behaviour just the same.
On a related note, after thinking about some older episodes, it is possible that Max has 'stepped out' a few times before...it is just that we want Fran to be the only one since Sara, but that just may be too much to ask.
Next point..CC coming in and out the past few weeks has been unsettling. I wanted more development between fake CC and Niles, we missed some real potential humor there. Now what I LOVED (besides the premise) was the classic jello covered Niles, Max and Fran at the bachelor party (although Brighton sneaking in anyway could add much more humor), the whole interaction with Nigel/Fran/Max and just plain dealing with ISSUES!
I only regret this whole thing has been so rushed, as we are missing out on so many more pre-wedding scenarios. And I truly regret that we will not be seeing Maxwell's mother at the wedding.

I loved the premise of the show (Did Max or didn't he?) and enjoyed watching Max and Fran work out their differences. Fantastic drama and romantic moments by both of them; it shows such range of their acting skills! glad they brought back Nigel for this moment. So why is Fran in jeans so much? She should have (another) entire new wardrobe from Max's credit card by now and it does not make sense to have her in jeans like this. Loved Niles in jello, (but what happened between him and the CC replacement?). Sylvia and Niles together were hilarious as always! And do the kids know Fran will be adopting them? We still have so many loose ends to tie before this wedding!

Flooding New Jersey. . . LOL!!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to find this episode frustrating. On the one hand, the comedy was terrific (Flooding New Jersey isn't going to solve anything!) and it was great to have C.C. back again. The interaction between Fran and Max was upsetting though. Not what I expected one week before the wedding. The only satisfying part of this one was the office scene at the end when they BOTH said I love you and kissed. I loved the wedding scenes at the end too. I managed to see Fran on Regis & K.L. this morning and they had a delightful sneak peek at the beginning of tommorow's show and she gave a brief description of plans for next season. ONE MORE DAY!

I loved this episode. It's great that CC's back. Can't wait until the wedding next week!!!!!!

Another wonderful episode from the TN team. I think I would have liked things handled a little differently - it was apparently quite a serious issue, but it was still a very satisfying episode, so I'm not complaining!

Good episode. Some classic lines - from Niles' "...some little shiksa ruin 'my' wedding" to Nigel's "we don't share anything - we're British" (double meaning here?) to Yetta's "he sees with his hands" to Max's "totally bereft of dignity" and some classic Fran lines. My favourites were "...couldn't even make up your mind about what we weren't", "Are you sure there's no Jewish blood in you?" , "...flooding New Jersey" and "...could you go for a little crow?"
Romance was great at the end - including the verbal interruptions - but Fran should have been able to front Max about Marla without Marla's presence (although Niles handled her well - again!)
Overall, it had some great moments. At times it is difficult to remember this show is a comedy and therefore 'comedy' should be the major aim (although I personally love the romance, too) and it's future success will be determined by the comedy. Trying to resolve a major romantic issue in 20+ minutes (that's all there is minus credits, etc) meant things had to move quickly. Possibly less time on the presents scene (although great lines here and it did lead to the 'should we or shouldn't we' have a batchelor party scene). I like how Fran appeared to finally see through Nigel's shallowness and immaturity (in regards to relationships) and Brighton should have been at the Batchelor Party - illicitly. He, as well as Niles, could have come in at the end covered in green geletin.
Great to see CC back and in form. Possibly Lauren's pregnancy made a difference but, after just rewatching series 4, this series with CC and Niles hasn't quite been the same! Now for the Wedding and TV guides say it is in 2 parts - BOO!! HISS!!!

I really enjoyed this episode! It was very funny plus it dealt with a very important issue in Fran and Max's life together, Nigel. Maxwell's reaction was too heavy I think - and the fact that Fran had to bring out Marla in order for him to see sense wasn't really positive. It does, however, show that Fran knows how to handle him. I guess she always has, nothing's changed really. I enjoy seeing Fran out-smart Maxwell.. he relies on her as much as she relies on him - it's a beautiful thing.

Needed more Niles/CC moments and laughs, but was an OK ep.

Max's attitude in this ep got to me a bit... a bit too hypocritical to handle. It's scary to imagine that this is just one week before the big day!
A couple of issues are still unresolved or have just been brushed over. Personally would have liked these loose ends looked after better before the next episode. I suppose they had lots of issues to deal with in a short period of time!
All in all, (besides Max's attitude) a good ep. Looking forward to the next one!!

Perfection!!!

It was good yet it could have been alot better given more work.

I thought it was a really cool episode, the ending was really sweet, the way they both said "I love you". I cant wait untill next weeks.

Yeah, I liked this ep a lot.. much better than the Pre-Nup. I can't believe they're splitting the wedding into two parts!!!! Now, after waiting FIVE YEARS I have to wait another WHOLE WEEK!!!!

Still the one liners with the kids. do they even exist anymore? One must wonder.

5.22 The Wedding

May 13th, 1998

Fran wonders if she is doing the right thing after learning that Maxwell's mother won't attend the wedding.

The romance of Fran Fine and charming Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield reaches its fairy-tale conclusion as the two wed. But waiting at the end of this season-ending episode is a less than dreamy cliffhanger.

It's 24 hours before the big day and an overly superstitious Fran leaves for her mother's house to avoid seeing the groom before the wedding. Fran is in her childhood bedroom watching an episode of 'I Love Lucy' when she dozes off and finds herself in Lucy's living room. Fran compares Maxwell (Charles Shaughnessy) to Ricky (both having accents and in show biz) and Lucy gives Fran a vote of confidence for her wedding in this one hour episode. But when Fran, Sylvia and Val get hopelessly stranded on the highway with a flat tire, Fran fears she may miss the big event altogether -- and it's up to the heroic groom to save the day. Meanwhile, when Maxwell suffers from the pre-wedding jitters, his deceased wife, Sara (guest star Bess Armstrong, reprising the role) gives the marriage her spiritual blessing.

Fran finally reaches her wedding day safely, but remains worried that something will go wrong. Just when she starts to believe everything is running perfectly, Maxwell's snobby sister convinces her that the marriage of blue blood and blue collar is doomed to failure. Feeling excluded from Maxwell's upper crust British family and worried that the marriage won't last, Fran is unable to walk down the aisle -- until Maxwell convinces her that true love conquers all.

Fran and Maxwell's highly anticipated wedding is a lavish, extravagant affair that includes a set modeled on a wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 100 costumed extras with dancers, more than 40, 000 flowers and a ceiling-high cake. The main attraction, however, is the bride's gown, a well-kept secret that will be unveiled as a fairy tale fantasy of a dress designed -- and kept secret -- by the Beverly Hills bridal shop, Celeste. Written by Caryn Lucas. Directed by Peter Marc Jacobson. Jocelyn: Sophie Ward, Sara: Bess Armstrong, Wedding Planner: Chris Hogan, Priest: Darryl Hickman, Rabbi: Cantor David Benedict, Aunt Marilyn: Anna Berger, Uncle Stanley: Morty Drescher, Aunt Rose: Sylvia Drescher, Young Fran: Jamie Renee Smith, Sales Clerk: Sue Goodman, David Gianopoulos, George M. Hoth

Our responses (72) gave the episode a 9.8 overall, a 9.6 for the comedy, and a 9.9 for romance. Some comments received were:

OMIG-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!This was the most incredible Nanny episode I have ever seen!! I loved every minute of it It had romance, comedy, and a great wedding! Charles looked absolutely awesome (so did Fran of course)and it just sent goosebumps up and down - I laughed, I cried, I couldn't believe all the strings they were pulling- The part when Charles spoke to Sara just broke me up (both tears and laughter). Niles was great and everyone looked wonderful- I hope they don't get silly with the ending and keep the writing up to the standards they have been the last part of this year- Congrats to all !! A true classic (the Lucy bit was also wonderful)- I'll watch it all summer and just hope that next year will be as great(and maybe a baby?) MAZEL TOV TO EVERYONE :.)!!!!!!!!

WOW!!!!!!

Overall, loved the show. They covered a lot of ground. Didn't care for the cliffhanger. Loved the wedding scenes. Fran's family is a trip! I hope they losen Max up a bit. I think they will be great for each other. Wished Niles and CC had more than that one scene. Can't wait till fall.

The best of all the show life funny, good performance so good I couldnt believe it, Ahh Fran was so gorgeous, oy, and how did they manage to get the cast to act so good, I man they are good but this was was too much. I think Fran will finally get the Emmy this year Great acting.

It was one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen....I will admit, I had tears in my eyes watching Fran walk down that aisle!!! The season- opener should be interesting....AND, is something going to spark with Niles and C.C.?? Or is this just a delusion?? A straight 10 across the board!

What can I say. This is now my favourite ep. It had everything, simply everthing. A very satisfied fan. Can not wait for next season if this is a glimpse.....

Wonderful!! Sweet!! Romantic!! Funny!! It was definitely the best episode ever!!

Did Not Disappoint. I loved it. I haven't enjoyed the last couple of weeks but the finale/wedding was WONDERFUL!!!

Thank you, Caryn Lucas, for a 99% perfect Nanny episode! The balance of comedy and romance was just right. I LOLed and cried, sometimes in the same scenes. The pace was brisk, the lines were hysterical. My favorite scenes were Max and Sarah -- the "I sent her to you" angle was perfect -- and Sylvia with Fran/young Fran. The wedding itself was just beautiful, a real fairy tale -- so classy and warm and funny, too! The comedy was injected at just the right moments so that it never got "soapy" or melodramatic -- thank you! Kudos also to the costumer for some gorgeous gowns and for putting the guys in white tie (mm-mm). One small nit: I wanted to see more of Lucy/Fran. A bigger nit: IMO, the car scenes could've been cut down and the reception lengthened. Along these lines, if Niles had said "one" instead of "twelve" drinks, the Niles/CC moment would've been perfect; as it was, it was just another alcohol induced moment of faux kindness. Also, where was Nigel, Nadine, and Whoopi? It was interesting to note that Niles was, indeed, the best man, as he was the one who handed Max and Fran their rings. And a bit of trivia re Niles' hair -- in some scenes it was the usual length and in others it was the short "do" they gave him for the play he's doing, Dealer's Choice. Apparently, some things were shot later on, perhaps to accommodate an alternate story line? Hmmmm.... I thought the cliffhanger was a riot and totally appropriate for a zany sitcom; I so appreciate Fran not allowing that last scene to get too mushy! She is one smart woman and she and her staff created one heck of a perfect episode! All in all, I thought this was a superb example of the quality all Nanny eps. could and should have. I hope this will be a new benchmark to which the writing staff will aspire. Thanks again, Caryn -- 10/10!

One word - FINALLY!!!

This is the best nanny episode I have ever seen. Everything was there, I cannot think of one think I didn't like. This is as good as it gets. I wonder how I'm gonna survive the next months! Boy, was that cliffhanger ODD...

OY! How could ya not give that a 10?! That was the most beautiful wedding I've ever seen! Fran's gown was absolutely gorgeous &, yes, Max looked incredible in that tux! Loved the tender moment between Fran & her mother, & L'dOL over some of those lines! "Did you eat my underwears?" "She's been with an Italian!" I feel just like two of my closest friends got married! Congratulations on a great season finale!

Great episode definately the best one I have ever seen! Kudos to the cast and the writers on this one had everything we wanted and more.Left me with a great feeling and hope for next season.

Terrific ! Excellent ! & the most entertaining episode I've ever seen ! I loved just about everything. The acting by the entire cast was wonderful. The writing was great & the plot stayed consistent with past character development - A perfect 10 !

Charles looked extremely handsome in both the cashmere & the White Tie & Tails & Fran looked very elegant & beautiful in the wedding dress. I also really liked the way the writers handled the scene where Sarah talks with Max - it was tasteful & touching without being maudlin & the part where Max talks with Niles about being nervous about "living up to Fran's expectations" because she's been with an Italian guy was realistic & funny at the same time... & what can I say except that the "cliffhanger" was hillariously "Classic" Nanny. All in all I hope there's alot more where this came from next season.

I think this is the best episode of the Nanny I have seen. The part where Lucy is in with Fran is great!!!

This was indeed the best episode of The Nanny that has ever been aired. Sylvia saying goodnight to Fran and remembering her as a little girl was really touching. A big thumbs-up to everyone involved with making this a great show!

Overall the show was well done, however, I thought they could have done a better cliffhanger. Also expected a little more out of Niles/CC. And please make up your mind how you want to write CC's character. This constant back and forth is distracting. Max/Sarah was one of best moments. I will be waiting with bated breath to see how they write for next year. If they write a "Fran as Lucy" aspect I think they may make a mistake. I would much rather see them address the Flushing/Society angle rather than the I'm going to get involved with the business, as has been mentioned in various talk shows. Best line was Max and Niles in the bedroom. All in all for TV weddings I think they managed to do a very nice job. I'd give it a 9.9999!

I think this will go down as the best episode ever. It had it all - comedy, drama and romance.Everyone looked fantasic. And we finally got to share some private moments with the happy couple. I am so happy that they are finally married, now I just can't wait until September when they finally get to "do it". A PERFECT 10.

This is the best episode I have ever seen. The part with Sara was heartwarming. I wanted to laugh and cry. It was fun to see all the flashbacks as their relationship progressed. The comedy was great, the best part was when the cantor asked if anyone saw any reason why these two should not be wed and Sylvia gave the entire congregation that look that said she'd break anyone's kneecaps if they dared to say a word. It was totally appropriate for Niles to be best man after all the work he put into getting these two together. My only complaint is that I would have liked to see more of the reception. But I enjoyed the last scene on the boat when he yelled "Miss Fine" and from somewhere in the ocean we could hear "It's Mrs. Sheffield!" I'll be looking forward to next fall-Here's hoping we won't have to wait till October again. (And maybe next year at this time we could all be sending in comments on their baby)

I thought that it was so good until she falls of the boat. It somewhat spoiled a good thing. I know that there is no way they would or anything but...I hate to say it but...that was a dumb ending to a great season and episode.

It was an awesome episode except for the cliffhanger. I can't wait until the fall! (Maybe a baby?)

It was probably the best Nanny show ever. It had comedy, heart and surprise. 2 thumbs up.

To finally have the two together forever is the best thing possible.

YAHOOO!!!!!!!!

I really liked this ep until the very end when she fell over board. A little too overdone in that department. But, overall, very good. Thank god she didn't wear that god-awful pink thing in the actual wedding. Her dress was gorgeous though! Overall one of the best eps I've ever seen!

Now only one more wish- A BABY!!!!

FINALLY!!!!!! I can't believe they actually got married. I loved the scene where Max talked to his wife. And the scene where Fran didn't walk down the aisle and everybody was waiting. Especially the beginning where Max was in the mood, and then whent hey were in the dressing room and he told her how inportanat she was to him! Can't wait till next season. And a baby!!! (HINT HINT!!!!)

This episode is gonna be one of my all time favorites. Fran just looked so great in the wedding dress. I'm one very satified coustomer!

** S I G H ** I just loved it. I agree with those who commented that they would have liked a liittle more wedding reception. The last 15 minutes flew by too quickly!

This was best Nanny all year, worth the wait. Just love, everything about it.

I loved it!

I don't know how I can put into words how much this episode meant to me. After five years of watching the show with one goal in mind, they finally accomplished it and it was amazing. I just loved so many aspects of this episode. Max in the cashmere was gorgeous and I loved the scene in the kitchen with the two of them! I loved all of the montage clips with the music and I thought everone was fantastic with their acting. All deserve an Emmy! I loved the talk with Fran and Sylvia the night before the wedding.I felt like the best scene that has ever taken place between Fran and Maxwell was when he came into the dressing room to tell her how much he loved her. ("I'll love you forever", could your heart just melt!) And of course the actual wedding was gorgeous, Fran's dress was the most beautiful wedding dress I have ever seen! I too would have liked to have seen more of the reception, but we only had an hour! And when Fran fell off that boat, I LOL! That was hysterical! I was just glad that Max jumped off for her, because from the clues I had heard about the show, I was under the impression that they would be seperated, but now I feel better knowing that they are together (they'll probably end up on some deserted island for a couple of days!). Overall, the best ever ep! A 10 all the way. Thanks Caryn Lucas and Peter for great directing and to everyone at the show who made it so wonderful!

I Loveed It!!!!!! This was so good! Fran and Max! I was crying!!! I really liked her wedding dress, I think that's what mine will look like when I get married!!! It was great!!!

According to the LA Times Newspaper this episode drew nearly 17 million viewers, the Nanny's biggest audience in more than 2 years! It was fabulous. Could it get any better between F and M? Loved the scene with Maxwell telling Fran what she meant to him. I think we and Fran needed to hear it. I liked the Honeymoon boat scene--so romantic!!!!! You could see that Fran would be falling overboard- I still laughed! Loved it all!

WOW!!!!! Thats all I can say. I recorded this episode and have watched it several times in the last three days. It just keeps getting better and better each time. I liked the flashbacks of their love story. I really liked the Max/Niles and Fran/Sylvia bonding times. When Sylvia looked at Fran in bed and saw her daughter as a kid, that was great. Niles supporting his boss and friend with words of comfort "...even an Englishman can satisfy her." It really showed that these two men are truly great friends. The part that I loved the most though was the Max and Sarah scene. CS and the other actress had a very genuine chemistry that made me think that they really could have been married. It was great when she told him it was okay to love Fran and I about lost it when she said, "Thats why I sent her to you." This was truly a very well done episode.

I give it a 10 in every catorgy. Fran and Max looked fabulous and so did the rest of the cast. I laughted, I cried. Can't wait for next season.

I can only muster a 9.99 for the episode. The cliffhanger was adorable as it was broadcast for an audience who knew that renewal for fall 1998 is almost certain. But! When I consider that the episode was taped the last week of March with season 6 a 50-50 "on the bubble" proposition, I'm a little disappointed that the producers would have left us hanging that way. I'd have awarded the coveted perfect 10 if they had freeze-framed Fran perched on the rail. On the plus side, I thought that Sarah's visit was handled extremely well. I wonder if Peter had been watching a tape of Anita Gillette's appearance on "Empty Nest" from a few years ago. Although Caryn's words were uniquely "The Nanny", the visual was a wonderful match to one of my favorite TV "ghost sightings" of the past.

I wasn't sure what to think at first except that the cliffhanger was hilarious, but 3 viewings later (and more on some parts), I love it! Max was SO sweet and totally gorgeous thru it all (and the rest of the cast wasn't bad)! Despite the past weeks, it's clear how much he truly loves Fran. Best moments: Max/Sarah scene, Sylvia telling young Fran good night, and Max telling Fran he'd love her forever. (sigh!). Funniest was Gracie's Maggie/muppet line, Niles & C.C. drinking, and Fran's desparate "It's Mrs. Sheffield!". I also loved the music that went with the clips segments. It's a good thing this was the season finale as there is so much to hash over here, it will take all summer! Kudos to Fran & Co! Can't wait for Season #6!

I've now come down off wedding cloud nine and rewatched the entire episode to be absolutely sure-- and for me this episode was tens across the board. I'm really grateful to everyone associated with TN for ensuring that this important-- and long awaited- step in the show's history was so beautifully written, acted and produced. My favorite parts include Sarah's conversation with Maxwell (I first got hooked on the show when I saw I Don't Remember Mama at the end of the first season. Then I thought that Bess Armstrong's cameo-- I believe uncredited-- was just right.) Sarah's conversation with Maxwell added so much love and emotion to this episode, the perfect balance of poignancy and humor, with an emphasis on the happiness of the children. I had a similar catch in my throat when Sylvia sees the young Fran as they say goodnight; that scene too confirmed the love between Fran and her mother, despite some of their clashes. The wedding scenes were simply fantastic. I didn't think Charles Shaughnessy could look more handsome than he typically does-- so glad he, Niles and Brighton were in tails. Charles did a great job in conveying Maxwell's controlled hysteria when he suggested that Fran check her day planner to see if she remembered to schedule the wedding. His efforts to convince Fran how much and why he loves her were charming-- and he had that great line about her love for the children alone guaranteeing that he'll love her forever. The wedding moments also were lovely and so powerfully acted. My favorite part of the reception occurred when Maxwell reminded Fran that she could go ahead and leave the wedding because, this time, she was the bride and threw the bouquet. I agree with an earlier post that Niles and C.C.'s scene would have been perfect if he had claimed only one drink, not 12. And I also thought the shipboard scenes were incredibly romantic, until we descended into the farce of the cliffhanger. By then, I was inclined to allow them any devices they felt they needed; and the ET question had pretty much given the trick away. Only other bones to pick-- who were the boys and girls who were part of the wedding party? What happened to the relatives who had made earlier appearances on the show? Didn't anyone think we'd noticed that Nadine, Aunt Frieda et. al. were missing? I had hoped that Twiggy would be back to play Jocelyn- wish they hadn't had to break up Jocelyn and Lester as a plot contrivance. Also, I agree that the scenes around the car breakdown were a bit long and less successful, although they did set up the retrospective reviewing of Fran and Maxwell's "beautiful" not "pitiful" relationship. Don't know how I'll survive through the summer, but if this quality work continues the 6th season could be the best yet.

Sure to be one of the classic Nanny episodes.

It's going to be a long summer!

WOW! WHAT A FINALE!!! 5 years wait seems worth it now. Max was SOOOOO GORGEOUS at the wedding and in the casmere. Wait a minute, does he ever not? Fran is one lucky gal. Of course she looked lovely too. The wedding was great! Wonderful acting by all. It was funny when C.C. put that veil type thing on her head and started walking down the aisle with Max!! Niles prying her off of him. The scene where Sylvia looks back and Fran is young! I Could've cried!!! I loved the scene with Max and Sarah although it had that whole "Twilight Zone meets X-Files" thing going. I didn't recognize Bess Armstrong at all! The cliffhanger wasn't really a cliffhanger. A cliffhanger would be like the one where the plane is going down the way back from Paris. (We saw what happened then, I just hope nobody is on a honeymoon falls in the water has the fiance jump in after them and a tragedy ensues. Remember TWA after the Paris ep! That would be too freaky.) This is "classic" Nanny. Keep up the good work to everyone on and off the set of this great sitcom!!! (CHEER)

Hysterical! Falling off the boat was so appropriate and so wise. It'll gaurantee that everyone tunes in next year to see what happens next. I know everyone wants a "happily ever after" but lovey, dovey acting can get just a tad bit annoying after a while. How many times did Max call Fran "darling" in this episode? I think he was aiming for a world record! This couple is not meant to have an easy time of it, it's much funnier when life doesn't go according to the plan. I hope the writers remember that and don't settle into a routine when writing about Fran and Max. Too much romance usually kills T.V. shows...most audiences are much more interested in the chase than they are in the capture. I'll bet there are a few more episodes to come before the BIG moment. Is anyone out there writing up what they think will happen next? I'd love to read some of your ideas! My best guess is that Franny is due to suffer from a bout of amnesia so that she doesn't remember Max or anything about the last five years. She'll probably get knocked on the head when they're rescued and it'll happen then. That problem should be good for a few episodes and then when she DOES recover they'll probably set out for the "honeymoon from hell." It will be fun to watch.
Max looked georgeous in that tux!!!! I wish my husband looked that good in a suit. I think the episode was truely well acted...I sure believed they were a couple in love. I think I liked the first scene the best where Max is more than willing to start his honeymoon early and I loved the part where he confessed to Niles about being nervous (although he sure didn't look nervous in the kitchen did he?) The kissing montage was great (I think I rewatched that the most) and the best line was when Max chided Fran about "never really working." Watch Fran's eyes when he says that to her. I thought she was going to deck him. An excellent show! The summer is going to be much too long now. Between The Nanny and The X-Files, I'm going to chew my fingernails off before September!

AT LAST! What a magnificent event! The wedding itself was just beyond words...the best ever. We have waited so long, I wanted less up-front flashbacks and "cartoony" music so we could have more on the wedding ceremony and reception!! The moments of Max reassuring Fran right before going down the aisle was absolutely the best yet. That, my friends, was romance and it said volumes!
Moments between Fran and Sylvia and Val were quite touching and funny to see. I am looking forward to seeing Max's mother next season, so don't disappoint me! The new Jocelyn was not as nice as the old one (too bad about her and Lester). Having Sara return was a poignant moment and really helped give closure. Bravo! (although at least a hug from Max would have been appropriate)
The Cliffhanger was classic Fran all the way! I loved the freeze frame of Max diving...I was on the edge of my chair, a thoroughly entertaining evening. Do we really have to wait all summer for a new one? I CAN'T WAIT!

What a great episode! Just the right amount of romance and comedy. The wedding/reception was beautiful (although it could have been a little longer). Loved the montage of past scenes. Scenes with Max/Sarah and Fran/Sylvia were very touching and well acted. Loved the way a bit of humor was thrown into all the romantic scenes. Loved the ending when Fran falls overboard and Max yells,"Miss Fine!" just as he has for the past five years. The ending was classic Nanny. Hilarious!

Mine was the first response on the board but I have to say something about "The Nanny" cliffhangers. Someone mentioned the Twilight Zone/X-Files connection: Cliffhanger one- the plane goes down/ (real life) TWA disaster, Cliffhanger 2- the trip to London and the Princess Di/ Charles masks segment- (real life) Princess Diana dies tragically- and Finally- Cliffhanger 3- The Rabbi and the Priest argue- "He's a G-d" He's a man" who are they talking about? Sinatra! My case rests- A bit eerie isn't it?

Not a very romantic episode..and it sorta didn't make sense when Fran reminded Max that he wasn't allowed to see her 24hrs before the ceremony because we didn't get the kitchen scene in the beginning. It'll be even weirder if we get it next week. Network Ten has mucked everything up! But I liked the reminiscing parts, they were funny. The visit by Sarah was good too.

I would have loved to have seen both parts of the wedding episode in one sitting... not over two weeks!! But anyway!! Was very enjoyable to watch the "history" and memorable moments of the show. I had some great laughs! The scene with Max and Sarah was a nice touch; would have liked to have seen more of the kids and less of the highway flat tyre sequence. Onto next week!!!

It was an OK episode but I think that it would have been much better in the original one hour format because it was pretty boring. Not only that but I got a bit confused when they were showing the scenes with Sylvia, Val and Fran in the lingerie shop. I thought that it was another flash back to when she was engaged to Danny in the first show it was demonstrating how much she had changed because she was looking pretty cheap.

If we just think of it as just another episode, it was quite funny in places - Fran's hands acting as Sylvia's hands, for example, was quite funny - twirling hair, feeling her chest, etc. as were the scenes with the kids. And only Sylvia would offer 1/2 a candy bar as a bribe. Except for the light-hearted banter with Sarah (and wasn't it a great scene!) and the flashback to "For Once in My Life", there wasn't really much in the way of romance, though. Not getting the teaser (which is supposed to be quite 'hot') or the tag also had a negative effect - it sort of just started and ended abruptly. In passing, as I'm originally from New Jersey I find it hard to imagine 'any' road there with 'no traffic' for 3 or more hours! We'll I guess next week will have to be exceptionally great because if the CBS 1 hour version rated 9+'s, the 2nd half, which we'll see must be a 15 or more. C'mon Channel 10 - the whole thing!!!

It wasn't really that great. What happened?, and what happened to the kitchen scene that was in the CBS version? I hope part 2 will be better. However, the part with Sarah was nicely done.

I'd love to say that this episode satisfied my hopes for the wedding, or even the lead-up to it, as it was. But it didn't. I'm not blaming the show itself for the disappointing result, rather Channel Ten. They firstly had the lunacy to screen it in two parts (cutting the audience interest down dramatically) and since all media prints were broadcasted during this first week, where's the publicity for the second week, the ACTUAL wedding? And was I the only one that saw barely any television ads for the show? There's more ads on a usual, run-of-the-mill week!!! To add to this, not only did we miss out on the first scene (one that subsequently explained what exactly was going on), but the tag scene for the first part too!! This was the only advantageous aspect to screening the episode in two parts, and they can't even get that right!! The disjointed, confused episode we got dampened the quality of the show. Although what content we *did* see was great, I'm going to be hoping for the one-hour ep during repeats later in the year, as we all should.

Well it was extremely dissapointing that: 1. Ten is showing it in two parts, and 2. We didn't get the teaser OR the tag. I have to say I've seen the US version, but I was so hoping to be able to see it aired PROPERLY here. I think 10 can afford to miss ONE WEEK of Roseanne for the one hour episode, they're just trying to extend the season, which sux! No wonder they're 3rd in all the channels, they don't know how to advertise or program! As for the episode itself I definately enjoyed what we saw. It was funny - but it certainly would of helped to see the teaser - that really pulls the whole thing together nicely. The Sarah thing was cute (especially with Niles walking in) and the "flat tire" thing was also funny. I bet I know why they didn't use Maggie much - it was because they got the go ahead to do a one hour special AFTER they shot the wedding, and they wrote that whole beginning episode (or most of it) then, so they could fill an hour - and Nichole Tom must have dyed her hair (maybe for a movie) before she found out they were shooting another episode - at least that's how I would explain it! The absence of the other kids is unexplainable, but I guess it was because they trying to get a lot of clips in, and I do enjoy those clip shows!

When this episode first started I screamed out "NOOOOOOOO". Why didn't Channel Ten show the kitchen scene? This would have been a great part of the show. Also seeing the wedding in one night would have been fantastic. Anyway the flashbacks and also Sara visiting Max was extremely touching. All I can say is I can't wait for the actual wedding.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Finally, after 5 years!!!! This was the best episode ever, but it could have been better if Channel 10 had shown it all in one go instead of 2 parts. I loved Charlie in the cashmere jumper especially, but everyone looked great. Luckily, there were no flashbacks during this episode, because I'm starting to find that they're quite boring. One of my favourite scenes would have to be Max and Niles in Max's room the night before the big day - that was so funny. However, the cliffhanger could have been done better. What on earth are they going to do with that? Anyway, I know I'll be watching this ep over and over for quite some time. ps. has anyone else noticed that the dining room has disappeared again?

I have never seen anything so wonderful in my life...

Wasn't it just wonderful, beautiful and FUNNY!
The teaser was 'hot' and a hoot, the costumes were spectacular (although CC's designer could've done better by her!), the reception reminded me of the 'cocktail party' scenes on the old (here's showing my age) Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. Fran and Max (sigh!) - it was the ultimate dream come true. Even as Part II it worked well - in fact the 'time frame' was more effective - and I didn't miss Lucy at all. Oh if only February wasn't so far away!!! (Note: Channel 10 starts series 4 next week - "The Tart With Heart".

I was kind of dissapointed becasue it could have been alot better but thanks for finaly getting them together.

It happened! It happened! They got married!!
Well well, it was a wonderfully romantic episode, with some really funny moments. I'm still upset a Channel 10 for doing what they did..... anyway! The cliffhanger... Oh well! I guess it was the most obvious choice for the cliffhanger.... but personally, I would have liked another ending to such a wonderful episode! Happy re-runs everyone!

I LOVED IT!!! Channel Ten must have realized their mistake in not showing that wonderful first scene, and so appended it to be at the beginning of this episode. The result was a bit confused...one week they're talking about the wedding being 19 hours away; the next week, it's 24! As for the content, WOW! What can I say?!?! Although they edited the Lucy bit out (would have liked to have seen it all, oh well...) what we did see was excellent. From Sylvia with the diuretic (*LOL*) to the honeymoon (which was fantastic!), we were served a great show. :) LOVED IT...it was a dream come true!!!!!!

Well I was rather disapointed with both TEN and the Writers of the Nanny. Ten got all confused!??! And mucked it up! And well i though they could have had a LOT more at the wedding and reception! We did not fully see the cake, or see them cut it for that matter. We did not see them though the boca, and a few other thing's I thought they could have added! Other then that BEAUTIFUL dress,SEXY Charlie, and pretty Fran! And I gave the romnance a FULL 10!!! I just can't wiat until next season to see so REAL action!!!!!!

I thought that the way the two eps were divided was done by Sony (the teaser from the beginning being shown at the beginning of the second ep instead). Anyway, I thought it worked really well as a "previoiusly on the Nanny" kind of thing. I was annoyed at first that they had broken the ep in two, but now, I think it worked really well. CAN'T WAIT TILL NEXT SEASON (don't think I can last till next Feb!!) P.S. the Nanny was the tenth most watched show last week in Victoria!!!

I thought that after all this build up it could have been a bit better but it was the WEDDING and they're together.

This part was better than the first I felt. (PS The wedding episodes were the 8th most watched thing here in Sydney I heard)
