4.1 The Tart With Heart

Back from Paris, Fran is looking forward to her new relationship with Mr. Sheffield. But her hopes for the future are dashed when Mr. Sheffield simply takes back "the thing". Her bruised ego starts to wonder if he only sees her as a pretty face so she starts dating a blind man to reassure herself. Written by: Frank Lombardi. Jack: Jason Alexander, Pauly: Joey Dente

A few of our comments from the original airing:

I REALLY liked this episode, and I can live on the kiss at the end for a long time. I think this sets them up for a great season. I got a great fight and a great kiss. What more can a girl ask for? So I guess to quote Fran on Letterman last May, it was "satisfying".

I personally loved the season premiere. Any excuse to see Charles Shaughnessy is reason enough for me to watch. That kiss at the end is to die for. Great writing as always.

Our responses (45) gave the episode a 8.9 overall, a 8.5 for the comedy, and a 9.0 for romance.

I loved loved loved the part when they were kissing at the end. Its my favorite Fran/Max kiss. Friends? Friends. It is one of my favorite episodes.

This one ranks in my top 3 TN eps of all time. It was fun to watch Maxwell struggle between a rock and a hard place. We all knew that nothing short of a marriage proposal from him was going to appease Fran after he took back "The Thing". I admit that we didn't need "The Thing" dragged out for much of the fourth season though.
The final scene on the doorstep remains my favorite Nanny moment. It encompassed everything Max & Fran had been through in the first three years and held the promise of what was still to come in their relationship.

I thought Jason Alexander was great. He is so funny. I saw the indie film that Charles Shaughnessy did with him and I though it was really funny! I love the scene in the end, Yeah right just friends!

I just LOVE this ep. very very much. Itīs very romantic. I really love the 'friends ' part. I think it was pretty unfair what Max did to Fran, but It actually work out for the next seasons.

This is absolutely one of the best episodes!!! I just love it!!! And that kiss at the end....Woo-ha!!!!! :) :)

This was a gooooooooood one!

This is my all time FAVORITE episode!!! Love it, love it, love it!!! I don't think they could have done anything else to make it better... it's a perfect 10 in my book!!! I loved every minute of it!!! I especially loved Fran in this one!!!

"Friends" what can I say? I love the ep!!

I LOVED THE END SEEN.BUT I THINK MAX STILL SHOULD HAVE TAKEN BACK TAKING BACK THE THING.

That kiss at the end. Boy I wish I could have a friend like him. He really shouldn't have taken the "THING" back

It was a nice episode it was so conforting and I liked the part at the end when fran and max are sitting down talking .communication is very important in a relationship! It was a really nice episode. AU REVOIR!

One of the best and romantic ends of all shows! What could one say about this wonderful, intensive and perfect "friends"-kiss? So full of passion! I think every kissing scene between Max and Fran is perfect, but this kiss: two thumbs up! One of my favourite eps!

Niles' attempts to find out what "The Thing" was were absolutely hilarious and a great storyline to carry out over several episodes! LOL when Niles asked Max how it felt to be out of the loop when Max said he didn't know Fran had a date and Niles said he did- otherwise known as "Niles Revenge"! Max's line about Niles never being around when they were out of TP was a riot as was Niles' line in the office, "O-o-o, somebody was so-o very bad!" The kiss(es) at the end were to die for! The look on their faces when they finished told the whole story- Friends indeed!!

I have to agree - the kiss at the end is probably my absolute favorite Nanny moment. "Friends?" Yeah, right! I also love Jason Alexander (and wasn't he a blind 'George Costanza' in some scenes!). Now, is it just me or did Fran try awfully hard in some scenes to sound like Valerie Harper??? The scene in the office was a totally different 'voiced' Fran!

It was one of the best episodes !!! I love "the thing" !!! It's soooooooooooooo funny !!!

Fabulous!! :-=DE

this was fabulous! i jjust loved it. sure, there is one or ttwo ep-ods that were better, but that one was unforgetable! i didn't like the actual idea of the blind gye, cause it was mean in some places( hat's the way i remember it), but the last scene absolutely knocked me down! good job! im the nanny's biggest fan!thank you!

i think they took away the illusion of a happy end from us a little bit too fast.even the sceptic hadn't probably believed that all ended after a few seconds, when max took back the thing!man it was very illogical that he could act like that, when he really loved her,but on the other hand one could still be pleased about living to see another happy end.so my feelings were conflicting, but finally the anticipation about a lot of more stories prevailed an excellent possibility for a fran/max happy end.now there was a lot of tension what happened to fran and max in the fourth season, mainly because of the last scene.very romantic and sweet,it was a clear reference to fran/max romance and a lot of fun.if there were more of these sexy scenes of fran and max, when they were flirting in this fantastic way,the fourth season probably would become very exciting.in this respect even the fact a 'real' fran wouldn't have stayed after max declared his love to her and then took it back.! that was so hollywood style!!beside all that romantic stuff the show remained the best sitcom of the world.even if fran was sooooooo cute and beautiful, she wasn't really sweet when she made that cigar metaphor.UHHH!!!another great thing was niles who wasn't able to find out about what happened in paris.the 'agent in duty of max sheffield'even got angry. to put it in a nutshell "The Tart With Hart" was, although it was a disappointment in some reasons,a good start for the season, because of an interesting story,a lot of romance,a lot of fun,a very good looking fran and the best at the end, just the first of another great year of "The Nanny".

My favorite one.

This was a great ep! it showed a lot of good chemistry between Fran and Max, and it was totally funny! the scene with the lemon was great!

I love this ep. Itīs one of the best and a great beginning of the fourth season. And Boy, that kiss.

Loved the scene on the stoop. Also it was nice to see Sylvia with some real insight. And I enjoyed Gracie and Ms. Babcock.

One of my favorite eps. The comedic level was top-notch all the way through & the romantic chemistry between Fran & Max just sings - right up to that VERY revealing kiss at the end. The only thing to spoil it for me is the knowledge that "the thing" gag drags on for the rest of the season.

4.2 Cradle Robbers

When Maggie starts dating a twenty-something, Maxwell hits the roof. Fran convinces him that Maggie will learn all on her own that the relationship won't work, but meanwhile Fran will chaperone with John's friend. Written by: Nastaran Dibai and Jeffrey B. Hobes. John: Brian Bloom, Mike: Sean Kanan, Waitress: Lisa Thames

Our responses (26) gave the episode a 7.2 overall, a 7.2 for the comedy, and a 6.0 for romance.
Some comments received were:

I think it was funny, but Iīve seen better. Whatever, I like the " Mike " parts.

Not one of my favourites, but nice. The best part of it is Max losing his hearing!!

I THOUGHT THIS EP WAS GREAT! I LOVE SEAN CANAN HE IS SO CUTE. I THOUGHT MAXWELL SHOULD HAVE LET HIS JEALOUSLY TAKE OVER MAYBE IT COULD HAVE LEAD TO SOMETHING COOL. WELP LATER!

I love the nanny! The romances, the kisses!! All! I'm brazilian and i would talk about the nanny with the fans!!!

hi, i love it all! the nanny is great, everything is fine! it is just so funny, and romantic an all, i can juct ide! oh i love it!

Didn't like this one much --- coming right after that 'friends' kiss it was quite a let down. However, did like the comment about the "new Grisham" and the almond horn. Fran was just a little 'too much' in this one. Do like your song choice, though, Barb.

after the last great episodes,"Cradle Robbers" was best named as a kind of 'stop the breath' episode.there was nothing special, but it was ok,because there was no chance to get episodes like "Cup In Paris" or "The Tart With Hart" every week.maybe it should have been prevented that they picked up this father/daughter conlict for another time.so it was fran who saved the plot with her funny way of handling age differences between men and women.always funny these sories in which fran tried to keep a secret of her age.but maggie also made an interesting line in respect of frans age.because of "A Plot For Nanny" in the first season her age must have been well known in the house,as they had celebrated her 30th birthday.a logical mistake, but a necessity for a lot of funny jokes.one also had to take max hearing defects out of logic, but it wasn't very difficult as it founded a lot of fun, too.for example the way fran and niles tried to take their advantages of it.another thing i enjoyed very much was niles and his coffeine cure for cc that resulted in a zombie cc who missed a diner with max!don't you also think that niles looked completely crazy with the sunglasses and this cap?keep the youth butler!as the last point i think that it was a good decision to keep the 'thing' in mind for some time.so fran's reproach for max concerning the thing and when she worried about max preferences in his youth and on the other side at the time she met him, were not at least, some of the best lines of "Cradle Robbers".

i love the part when fran starts in with he line " they call him flipper.... then she'll dump him. this was a real funny episode

I agree that it was sort of a let down after that "friends kiss" but then that was a real highlight! I thought it was a funny ep! I just loved that "flipper thingie"!

I thought the ep was funny , my favorite part is when Fran had to give the waitress money to ask her for I.D, It was funny!!

I do not have to rewatch my tape on this one to remember that I didn't like it very much. As was mentioned in an earlier post, after the season premiere, this was a BIG letdown!

It was not the best episode...but I liked it ! :-)

I just loved C.C.'s " Wow, girlfriend, you've gotta going on !" followed by " I'm sorry, I watched something on FOX before I came along."

4.3 Bird's Nest

Brighton is doing poorly in school and his father is threatening to send him to military school unless his science grade come up. He enlists Fran's help in a big project to help his grade, but things quickly go wrong. Written by: Jayne Hamil. Story by: Robbie Schwartz. Mrs. Richardson: Nora Dunn, Woman in Wheelchair: Marcia Shapiro, Francine: Jackie Tohn

Our responses (20) gave the episode a 7.1 overall, a 7.8 for the comedy, and a 6.2 for romance.
Some comments received were:

this was a cute episode, i love the part about the grey streaked pigeon. The part about brighton and the lip stick was funny too.

This was a much funnier episode than I remember! How could Max be so-o-o clueless when Fran was talking about the gray-streaked pigeon? Niles' expression every time he heard Max tell Fran she was getting a bonus was funny as was Fran pretending she did warn Max when he thought it was his fault the eggs were gone. Fran sitting in class with gum on her nose was the funniest! This one had almost zero romance though.

well,what can i say--this is a nice ep.i liked it overall

I liked parts of this... the pidgeon references, Unlce Stanley's 'polluted' seafood, the shopping at the start and the 'Francine' on detention at Brighton's school. However, still a slower one compared to the opening of Season 4.

I remember thinking how popular The Nanny was at this airing. It was a Double Nanny Whammy. I think the show Pearl was having problems and CBS broadcasted 2 Nanny episodes (sure they needed Fran then). This is one of my favorites. I love when Sylvia says " it's one shrimp" taling about the 10lb of shrimp. I thought Nora Dunn was great as the teacher. This is also an episode where JFK was mentioned. Gracie was very cute also. I remember this one on primetime as if it was yesterday.

nice episode! Love the yellow outfit Fran wears on this ep!!

a very funny episode not only because of the ingenious DD and LL,respectively their always arguing characters niles(uhh a dog suppository!) and cc.i think that niles' phantastic trick with the records was a lot of fun.for example this scene in which he gave cc that false message from max that she had to come to the hotel and just after this got another line from max for tape.oh and also this dialogue between cc and max concerning this 'meeting in the hotel room'.wow these lines were really filthy...great,exactly whant i wanted most.at least cc could revenge on niles at the end of the show.but not only this one, also the thing with the sale founded some great scenes.i think of fran's student gracie and the jumanji trailor.the next thing was sylvias dealing with the nuclear reactor.a 12 pound shrimp!and in addition to this very funny to see brightons enthusiasm for his new project.i stick to fran...wanted to know not very much of this 'phenomenon'!
you can rip of my head, but i was completly blessed by seeing fran when she visited the theacher.wow she looked soooo great and i was not able to see a huge difference between a student and her.oh my god and then her appearance without the jacket in present of niles.no wonder why she got these extra bonus, whatever niles thought.did you watch frans look at a special point of max body at that second bonus scene!?i have my doubts that this was part of the script(just like the limo scene in"An Offer She Can't Refuse").to say somethig about the romance:once more i liked frans reproach to max.this metaphor with the birds was very good.the only thing i disliked was max threat to brighton to send him to military school.this was definetly not a good way for the character

loved all the parts on the balcony with the birds--very funny.

well, i lked it. i think it had its moments, and whatever you say--its good

4.4 The Rosie Show

Fran is an over-eager audience member of the Rosie O'Donnell show whose shouted child care advice is such a hit that Rosie asks her to be a semi-regular on the show. Her new found fame takes her away from the Sheffields too much however, so Maxwell and Niles scheme to get her to come home. Written by: Nastaran Dibai and Jeffrey B. Hobes. Themselves: Rosie O'Donnell, Donald Trump, John McD and the McDLT's.

Our responses (40) gave the episode a 8.0 overall, a 8.2 for the comedy, and a 7.2 for romance.

Another one of my favorites!! The whole dream thing was hilarious, and I loved the part where Niles was dusting C.C.'s headstone!! LOL!!

This was a good episode, not a great one though. Love the dream scene.

i just loved this ep(just like all tye others). the part with max's dream wasso good. well, everything ends nicely, and boy,do we feel fine!

i just want to tyank you for making the nanny so good--thank you

It was a nice one, but Like I said before: Iīve seen better. I like the " friends " part, I mean when Fran tolds Max that she understands what did he mean about being friends. The C.C. and Franīs parts were just great.

i thought this was a great episode. I love Rosie, and Fran too! The part about bubbi sophie was so funny. I loved the part when Fran said "tell me what you dream't and i'll tell ya what it meant." The whole dream thing was so funny. The part with yetta and the mirror was funny too.

This was a so-so episode. It was good anyway. I enjoyed it was ok.

Nice episode!

Definitely one of my favorites. So many fun things to watch for. Yetta talking about Millie, The Fiddler Dream, Fran's parents, Donald, and of course the Dick Van Dyke parody. C.C. played a fantastic Sally. One more thing that you do not see in syndication is the definition for "The Thing" as the action stops and the words appear at the bottom of the screen. Loved that part when this episode originally aired.

After the last 2 eps, this was a welcome change! This was great from beginning to end- starting with Fran's line re: Hugh Grant: "What a heada hair and that adorable accent and me stuck in the house all day! Where am I ever gonna meet a guy like that?!" The inside joke about the perky brunette & Max tripping over the ottoman was so funny- especially when Yetta went to the mirror and yelled "And there's Millie!". Max really admitted his feelings to Niles more in this one than ever before and that was very sweet. (Poor Niles- I'm not going anywhere, sir). The Dick Van Dyke parody remains one of my top favorites of all time from ANY sitcom. Everyone had their parts nailed! Overall, a fantastic episode!

I loved this episode. It was so funny. The dream scene and the Dick Van Dyke parody was so funny. I agree with whoever else said that Lauren was a great Sally and Danny as Mel, LOL. Just a great epiosde.

one of my favs, great fun and the dream sequence cracks me up every time I watch it

I had to give this one a ten, which i rarely do. The parodies of "Fiddler on the Roof" and "The Dick Van Dyke show" put it over the top in my book. This episode is a perfect example of the humor and creativity that defined the nanny. Another touch that i loved in the original airing was the definition of "the thing" being displayed across the screen. Everything flawlessly flowed together despite the fact that there were so many random, unconnected references. TEN!

I really loved this episode because there is a "hidden romance" because Mr.Sheffield found that he couldn't live with out her! I also love the dream! This is a really great episode!!!!

I got a kick out of this episode. It was light weight but fun. Max's fake dream was good and Fran's reaction was amusing. The tag scene at the end was also classic.

I really enjoyed this ep! I thought the end with Sylvia and Morty Drescher playing those senior citizens from Florida testing restaurants was awesome!

great ep!

It was an 'eh' episode to me. I think it was cute how much Maxwell missed her and tried to get her to leave.

I also loved the 'dream' sequence and the DVD parody. Another 'not great, not bad' episode. I also liked exactly how Niles knew that Fran had been fired!

Hi,my name is Carolina to Argentina,I see you every day in my country you are my idol send you all my atmiration and my love.

i enjoyed "The Rosie Show" very much,as it was again and again a pleasure to watch fran and her reproachs in respect of the 'thing'.sometime it would have been lost its flair, but not at this point.there was frans cute behaviour, when she used every opportunity to blame max, maxwells attempts to let fran forgot about it and the crazy story of niles and his fight of finding out about the secret.oh and it was so funny when niles said that not even max could have been stupid enough to confess his love to fran and then take it back!what a line!!even better than this was "The Nanny"'s very own definition of 'thing'.the frozen picture was a special highlight of the show, very remarkable, original and,of course, funny."The Rosie Show",in which fran looked like a deam again, presented us some great guest stars, although in europe they weren't as popular as in america.of course in an episode like this there had to be some fine pick up lines of fran.i speak of her lines when she enters max's bedroom and her 'condition'that gave her the possibility to get a little bit closer to max.some other super ideas were the 'vision'of max(ha i laughed when i saw niles cleaning cc's grave)and the successors of frans 'nanny corner'.in addition to this there had to be frans line that even her parents could do that better!who thaught that the graveyard vision couldn't been better, was persuaded by that fantastic "Dick van Dyke Show" parody.i am not able to say who of the Nanny casts made the best appearance in their guest roles.

Niles was so funny! I love Niles!

I thought that the ep was pretty cute- I loved how Max was jealous of her fame, and the Bubby Sophie dream was hilarious. Overall, good ep.

I loved the dream Max had.I couldn't stop laughing after Max said that he was at a party to celebrate Fran's success and that everyone was having a great time and Niles was dusting C.C.'s headstone.

4.5 Frieda Needa Man

Fran's evicted Aunt Frieda plants herself at the Sheffield's and it's up to Fran to get Frieda's wealthy boyfriend to propose. She tries giving him dance lessons, but he has a heart attack at an inopportune moment and the family blames Fran. Written by: Frank Lombardi. Fred: Donald O'Conner, Grandma Nettie: Marilyn Cooper, Aunt Frieda: Lainie Kazan, Rabbi: George Furth, Guy in Yacht Club: Neil Zevnik, Nurse: Sue Goodman, Woman thrown out of Yacht Club: Michele Roth

A few of our comments from the original airing:

Whew! Tonight's episode was great. Great pace, plot, dialogue, and performances. *This* is how to use VIP guest stars properly - Lainie Kazan and Donald O'Connor were terrific 'cause they were acting, not just strolling across the stage in a "look-who-I'm-friends-with" cameo. Again, as always - it's the writing, the writing, the writing! Frank Lombardi is back and showing everyone how to do it! An almost ROTFL episode - I did guffaw several times :-)

Our responses (26) gave the episode a 7.0 overall, a 7.5 for the comedy, and a 5.6 for romance.
Some comments received were:

Very nice story! Expecially the reaction of Fran / max during the ceremony...

this is a pretty good ep, but i think it's kinda mean, i don't know why tho'. it wasn't way romantic or way funny. the only scene i really liked was when max wanted to finally tell nileswhat the thing was,but niles went to the bacony. that was great

I really think it was a great ep, I love the dance part, I also love the guest starring of Donald O'connor. Very Funny.

Loved the part when Fran is teaching Fred to dance and she turns her back and he does some fancy footwork. The heart attack scene when he fell on top of Fran and she was bouncing and saying "Oh my God, my God" as Freida looks in was clever, too. However, I still like the ones that focus more on Fran and Max. Not much of the right romance in this one.

I love Frieda episodes. This is my second favorite Frieda episode next to A Fine Family Feud. The scene in the hospital when Sylvia screams is hysterical. Seeing Nettie again is a treat. Donald O' Conner is fantastic and seems to of had a great time on the show. Of course Laine Kazan in my opinion is the greatest of all The Nanny relatives next to Yetta of course. This is a very funny episode.

Nice ep! I love Franīs pantsuit plus Fredīs dancing!!

I loved it when Max was telling Niles what the thing is and Niles was to busy getting rid of C.C. and didn't hear it.

the 'thing',the 'thing',the 'thing'and.......the 'thing'.that neverending story was more than just fun,it was a show of it's own.oh i said it in the last polls,i like frans reproachs.this time it was for example her advice for max that he should visit frieda and take his offer,to let the wedding take place in the sheffield house back,as he was an expert in taking things back.ha!and also niles got his 'thing' scene, when max finally came round to inform him,but the poor butler wasn't able to catch one word, since of cc's disturbance(hee, what a scream!)there was also this great idea to let niles tell cc that it was max who had a heart attack in frans bed.but in my eyes by far the best line was fran's concerning the accursation of having an affair with fred that gave her the feeling as if she had been a trainee in the white house.what would have done comedy stars like jay leno and even a lot of sitcoms without the little affair of bill clinton.america is such a great country.in general i liked the whole story.that includes the appearances of frieda, nettie and fred.my last words relate to fran:if i had been fred and i would have been close to her wearing that dance dress,it wouldn't have been the rigor mortis that she had felt.wow, and then her navy dress.i really loved that woman.

Ok this was one episode I really could not stand. First of all, it's sad to say but I would have thought the same thing Frieda did when she saw Fran and Fred in Fran's room. Also this episode you could see how desperate Fran really is. When Fred asked Fran to marry him she hesitated, but then the second he said she could have whatever she wanted she grabbed the flowers and said ok let's go. Maybe that was supposed to be funny, but I thought it was Pathetic!

An okay episode but it sort of lacked interest for me. I didn't like the character of Freida much. She was too over the top and obnoxious. My other complaint concerns the belaboring of The Thing. Poor Niles. The writers should have given him and us a break and let him find out what it was.

Great episode.I love it. Specially Maxīs jealosy. Donald O'connor dances amazing!!!

Quite funny, but not too romantic.

I didn't like this one much, either --- although Donaold O'Connor's classic "Make 'Em Laugh" at the end was terrific! The whole desperate and dateless Fran was a bit over the top. And although I like Frieda in some episodes, I didn't think much of this one.

I'm from Brazil. This ep. is very nice!

I thought this was a pretty good ep. I liked the whole dude dancer thing. And thought I was Hilarious when Fran said," Let me get this straight...your taking it back for him???" I thought that was classic!!

4.6 Me and Mrs. Joan

Maxwell's father is in town with his new wife, the women he left Max's mother for. Fran invites them both to dinner but things don't go quite as smoothly as she'd hoped. Written by: Peter Marc Jacobson. Joan Sheffield: Joan Collins, James Sheffield: Robert Vaughn

A few of our comments from the original airing:

As usual, I had a love/hate feeling about this episode, too. I loved almost everything about it - the dialogue, pace, and plot . I LOVED Joan Collins and Robert Vaughan, two veteran actors used to the utmost potential. Again, this is the way to use VIP guest stars! Several times I found myself guffawing out loud and ROTFL... (Here it comes) BUT... enough with the smooch-fest!! I know alot of people like this aspect of the show but alright already! The only thing this does is remove the sexual tension and make the relationship a cheap, physical one. Fran has turned into a whining, hen-pecking, man-grabbing tart who shouldn't have a snowball's chance with a successful Broadway producer when there are so many other wonderful women in NYC (CC Babcock included!). She should show some class and stop forcing the situation. Maxwell fell in love with the old Nanny - a sweet, wise, modest woman with some pride. I miss her.

Well, I'm not as tough an audience as Abby, and I liked this episode, but I do have to agree that Fran Fine is losing her touch on how to handle a man. The old Fran would have been the life of the party at that dinner table, charming the socks off the grumpy, nasty Dad. (and in the process charming Max -and us- too) Instead she spent most of the time picking on Maxwell. Oh well, I generally liked this episode, especially the scene in the office. Even if he did take it back, yet again!!

I liked this show. And, unlike some of the other posts, I thought it had enough of everything. We're all apparently forgetting that Fran Fine thought after last season that Maxwell Sheffield was going to finally come around and move this relationship into something more solid. But he didn't. And, I think that all of her reactions lately have been right in character. Fran Fine is not someone who doesn't get hurt, and usually an outgoing, gregarious extrovert when hurt reacts much like Miss Fine is doing. I think it's fine (no pun intended) for now, but I hope the writers smooth this out and get this relationship moving a bit faster. This is one show where they could marry off the two characters and still have a tremendously funny show...probably funnier in fact, when you take into consideration the differences between Max and Fran.

Our responses (38) gave the episode a 8.3 overall, a 8.2 for the comedy, and a 8.3 for romance.
Some comments received were:

I absolutely love this one. It has it all. Laughs, lust, laughs, lust.... LOL The best scene has to be the one where Niles catches Max and Fran on his desk looking alternately guilty and pleased. All three actors expressions are perfect and I could watch it over and over and over..... ;-) The cat fight with 'Crystal and Alexis' is hilarious too as is the opening scene with Max trying to hide from his father until it's too late and Fran has to come to the 'rescue'.

This episode has my all time favorite Yetta scene. I remember watching the dinner segment over and over again. The audience reactions to Yetta and Sylvia proved how popular they were to the show. This is my favorite episode of the 4th season. Joan Collins was a perfect guest star. Here's to "Niomi and Wynonna", "Isn't this delightful", and " I came with her, she's my daughter".

It was so romantic !!! The kiss on the desk...oy ! I just loved it !!!

THIs WAS A GREAT ONE!! The desk part was the best !!

Ooh, I love that one! My favorite line was Niles' "Relive the magic at home", but my favorite scene is the desk scene, not a doubt about it! I guess I just had my mouth agape when I saw this episode for the first time, thinking "Yes! At last!"

Wonderful ep!!!!!! I love every part. It was very funny. All the kissing was great, just as Niles telling C.C. the story. Just a question : Were Fran and Max dating or something?...........[webmaster's note: ummm, no. Thus Fran's comment at the beginning when being introduced to James saying "I'm Fran, Maxwell's...well it depends on what day it is." This was the beginnings of the very changable state of the relationship depending on Maxwell's (or the writer's) mood.]

Although I loved parts of this episode -- the whole 'desk' scene was one part, outside the museum was another and. of course, Yetta and the talking pig -- I found it hard to like other parts. I found 'Mr. and Mrs. Sheffield' (Robert Vaughn and Joan Collins) to not be very likable people at all. I know they were supposed to be like that but I just couldn't like them so any scene with them in it just turned me off.

I love this episode. Favorite moments: "Did anyone see "Babe?", "Pig can't read..he must've used q-cards", and "I came with her" by Yetta; Fran and Joan admiring each other's outfits, and Sylvia's comments about Sheffild Sr.'s tie. Very funny episode, although not the most romantic one.

I thought it was great! But darn!, if James Sheffield hadn't walked in.....;D

if you ever be asked by someone what you adore of "The Nanny" and was is the series like, show him this episode.despite all happy end stuff in the 5th season i decided for myself that"Me And Mrs.Joan" was the best single episode of all(because the happy end story was a cooperation of several episodes).you had to love simply everything.but why i adore this episode?ok,first there were these fantastic guest stars, that fit exactly into their characters.max's father was the same character as he had been described before and r.vaughn did the rest to star a great james sheffield.what must been said about joan collins;she is a legend and i think her whole appearance was hilarious.i also think that she and fran drescher have not only some personality in common(isn't fran also a diva and siren!).they were also recognized because of a special character.fran for fran and joan for alexis!so it was a special highlight to watch them play together.not without a reason the character joan had some huge things in common with fran,so that this super story of max,his father and their ways of handling their housekeepers could take place.it was the start for a turbulent romantic comedy that create(as i have said it above)the best episode of all.so much fun to see fran picking on max, when she had found out that a sheffield was able to say 'i love you' without taking it back.and of course the office scene of fran and max was the highlight.frans court was so sexy and i almost fell of my chair when max really reacted on her.what a sexy scene, above all, when max throw himself at fran.althoug fran and max were always very sexy together, this happened not every episode.a lot of erotic in my eyes.the 'butler interuptus' was the next super idea and so niles was able to get the next present from cc.nevertheless also this time max and fran didn't come to an end,but it wasn't very annoying......huh this is really getting long.so i mention the other good things more compactly.i think of frans disappointment when max said that he would never made the same sex adventures with his housekeeper like his father did, joans lines concerning her and james sex life, frans ice cube scene, the way niles sat before the intercom and of course the two kisses of fran and max at the beginning and at the end.

I always like the slow scenes filled with romantic tension,(The show is great at these--lots of anticipation with little action), but who could not like the office/desk scene. It was fast and full of action! It sends chills down to my toes every time I see it!

I love the nanny it's my fav show i wish it could still be on

Nice ep!!!

Loved the way Fran and Joan wore the same type of outfits. Also loved the whole kiss idea of avoiding Maxwell's father. And when Max and Fran were on the desk I would have loved to see more without Niles interrupting, but I realize it couldn't be. A good ep.

oh, this episode was really great!i loved the whole thing altogether and every single part of it. i can't even figure out what was one favourite scene. probably all of them. lov ethe scene in the galery and office.

Grandma Yetta steels the show in the dinner sene. Fran is great as always, so is sylvia. Joan collins stinks!!

I thought that this episode was GREAT. I loved it how Fran and Max were kissing on the desk and then Niles walked in!! LOL!!!! And the beginning bit when Max see's his Dad and says something like "Oh my god, there's my father, quick kiss me" hahahahahaha

This episode is definatly faboo!! And without a doubt one of the best made.

well, this was a good ep. i loved everything about it, but the part with yetta was just hilarious!also niles walking in on max and fran. overall i gave it a nine

Unlike most people, I did not like the desk or museum scenes at all. They showed a tremendous lack of taste, even for Fran Fine. I did, however, love the rest of this episode, especially Collins and Vaughan--they were the perfect guest stars. I agree that the fantasy scene and the dinner scene were the best and most hilarious moments.

the best aspect of this ep is that so many characters' assets were displayed beautifully. the wonderful characters created for the show have always been the glue holding everything together. In this episode we saw some great interaction between niles and cc (relive the magic for 19.95), hylarious yetta lines (where did the shrimp come from? i came with her), and the meat of it all--max and fran. this season was a highlight IMO because despite whether or not you liked the plot tactics, you always had to appreciate the fact that the writters really knew the characters, which is something that lacked in the beginning and end of the show.

Oy, this is such a great eppy, especially the desk part!! I love this one!!! :)

Fran and Max have forgotten to left a donīt disturb on the door, then maybe.......

I just loved that ep!!! The desk scene was awesome!

THIS EPISODE WAS GREAT! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVOURITES'S

4.7 The Taxman Cometh

Fran has fudged a bit on her income taxes and she is desperate to influence the auditor in her favor. Meanwhile, the family is babysitting for Jay Leno's dog and Chester enjoys his new found doggy friend. Written by: Dan and Jay Amernick. Himself: Jay Leno, Appeals Officer: Rich Little, Himself: Monty Hall, Josh Bassen: Dana Gould, Richard Baker, JJ Gales, Chester.

A few of our comments from the original airing:

The word that comes to mind regarding this episode is "vanilla." Nothing offensive -- they *finally* took a break from The Thing (substituting real dogs in heat?) -- but nothing great either. It was all merely OK. The only thing I really didn't care for was the scene in the tax office. It seems as if they rewrote it 15 times and then pasted it together at the last minute. Rich Little, even though terrific at what he does, was only there as another token VIP. The way they resolved the whole thing was just a lame excuse to have him do impressions. Jay was OK, the tax man was OK, CC and Niles were OK, the kids were OK. Sylvia was a scream. Fran is still "off" somehow -- no longer the innocent tart with heart; now... just a tart. [sigh]From 1-10, I give it a 5, with one guffaw.

I must be easy to please this week. I really enjoyed this one. I especially liked that they got one of the kids involved (finally) and he had more than one line. Brighton's facial expressions in the steam room were a hoot, I loved the use of the Courtship of Eddie's Father theme and we got Max in a towel and a tux--all in one episode. That alone makes it a banner night in my book! They put the romance aside for one episode (though she gave him a very sweet hug in the tax auditor's office) and that's just fine with me for a week or so. Could have done without the tickling nonsense at the end, though. That and the Let's Make a Deal segment was just filler in my book.

I agree that there wasn't much that was funny in this episode. It appeared that one scene was put in only to promote her and Leno's book. I'm glad they took a break from the thing that was getting a little old. There wasn't much stuff with the kids so how could Fran have been able to give advice or become the TART WITH HEART If there wasn't any need to. I think this show was ok. with the exception of Charles Shaughnessy who is always a 10!

Our responses (29) gave the episode a 6.6 overall, a 6.7 for the comedy, and a 5.3 for romance.

All I can say is EWWW...I didn't not like this episode, but I gave it pretty good marks

It was ok, definetely not the best. Oh well, at least they got off the "the thing" track for one episode!

What can I say about Taxman? Well, Chester imitating the lions was cute. Other than that, there wasn't much here. It was okay, not awful, just not noteworthy either.

Not very funny, guest stars who remain guest stars and don't turn into characters, and the way the Brighton/Maxwell plotline was resolved was just pretty lame and not very convincing.
And was it really necessary to promote your biographies in such a way, guys? Tsk...

Like Iīve said a couple of times before: Iīve seen better. But I gotta say, Charlie looks : WOW!!!!!!!

Watchable, but definitely less-than-average ep.

While not that memorable an ep, it had some amusing moments. Brighton as Fran's tax advisor and poor Maxwell still struggling to bond with his disinterested son who was more impressed by the fact that the tax guy knew Pearl Jam - as opposed to Pearl Bailey LOL

I would like more fire between fran and max, jay leno was gréat

"Next time you walk into the living room limp, remember your my husband and you've got a disability" this was a cute and funny episode.

Didn't think much of this one... just a big chance for Leno to plug his book --- like Fran plugged all her stuff on his show! The only parts worth watching were the scenes with Max and Brighton 'bonding' to the "Courtship of Eddie's Father" theme -- that guy in the sauna - Double YUK!!!

In case anyone cares to know I always give 10s cause I love this show! [webmaster's note: Then you've missed the point of the poll. We all love the show, but the poll would be pretty boring if every episode got the same score. The poll is intended to show the relative rankings of the episodes. Everybody has favorites and not-so-favorites, we want to know which ones you like most and why. Or which ones you thought were not quite up to the same level of excellence and why.]

Umm, yes this episode ranks among those of lame. It reminded me of why I am glad I did not have a nanny. It was just so odd that the episdoe did not talk about Fran wanting Max because that's pretty much all the other episodes...its gets a big thumbs down!

I hate this episode. Itīs very bored īcause they didnīt talk about Fran and Maxīs relationship.

4.8 An Affair to Dismember

Maxwell's impulsive brother Nigel visits New York and falls hard for Fran. She is tempted by his proposal and carefully considers his offer. Written by: Diane Wilk. Nigel: Harry Van Gorkum, Dock Cop: Christopher J. Edwards.

A few of our comments from the original airing:

Four words: THANK YOU DIANE WILK!!! Loved it - one of the best shows in a very long time; it was worth waiting for. I hope this is an example of the trend for the rest of the season. It had everything (comedy, romance, schtick, drama) and was written, acted, and produced with style and class. No VIP cameos to interfere, no gimmicks. They handled eveything with subtlety and finesse. I didn't even mind that the CC/Niles content was small. And didn't Fran get to show her full range as an actress, both dramatically and comically? I guffawed and I cried - what a perfect evening!

I think it's my fav. so far!!! At one point I was almost crying because she picked Nigel over Max. Not a choice I would have made. I especially like the end. It shows you how much Max loves her and needs her. At the very end it's funny when he picks her up and says. "You do realize that it's the other ankle you injured." and it's so cute when he says, "It's alright I've got you." and she says "Boy, do you ever."

What can I say except WOW!!!

This one was a stunner. Beautifully done, beautifully acted. I couldn't help but cry when she was leaving and poor Niles asleep on the couch really tugged at my heartstrings. I'll never be able to hear that song again without thinking of this show.

One word: Depressing . I'm still sniffing from it. Sure, it had its moments... I'm still crying! Aggg,,,I hope next week's is funnier!

Our responses (53) gave the episode a 9.1 overall, a 8.7 for the comedy, and a 9.2 for romance.

the nanny is the best

How can you just not love such a moving episode? You can't...

This episode was all around wonderful. I was laughing at the start of the episode, and then by then end I was crying. It is one of the few episodes that ever made me cry.

I think it was really sad to see Fran that confused, and that she really wanted to get out of there and go away with Nigel although she loves Max. But I'm happy she did miss the ship, so it all got well in the End..!

In my opinion one of the greatest episodes that has ever been made. A gorgeous looking Fran Drescher and that great Bee Gees Title "Donīt throw it all away". Combined, this is much more than 10 points rating !!!

i love the Nanny and i watch it everyday and i wish that they would start from the beginning and run the shows in order

I liked at the end of this episode when Maxwell says something like, Don't worry Miss Fine I've got you, and then Fran says, boy do you ever.

great ep especially the end with Fran and max!

I LOVED this ep!!!! My favorite line was when Niles was in the kitchen w/ Nigel & Fran: "Wha? Is your foot caught in a butler trap? Gnaw it off and get moving!"

I loved this eps. It was very romantic, but in my heart I knew fran could never love nigel in the way that she loved max!!! she and max are and always will be one ..... if max ever had any idea that nigel would propose to fran, you would have seen him committ to her instantly!!! This eps. definetly rates a "TEN"!!!"TEN"!!!"TEN"!!!

"Don't worry miss fine i've got you" that was on of the best lines in the whold episode, the whole series. It was a cute episode. Especially the end with Max and Fran with the ankle thing.

I loved this one, scenes that can make you laugh and cry at the same time (when Fran takes the chocolate after kissing Niles goodbye ) make the show feel more real. Really proves Fran cares for Max.

Nice episode!

Loved the ending :-)

i don't know why,but i gave this ep all 10's. i think this is my all-time favoutite! i absolutely love every single moment of it! i even cryed! Is it not perfect from trhe begining till the very end?it was very romantic and emotional. they also pisked the right music for it; that song sets you in the mood. You know, when nigel gave fran the tickets, she kinda said that maybe it isn't right to leave now( at least that is how i interpreted it),there is no way for her to turn back. its sort of said how she is saying to max that if h wants her to stay, she will. it is so sad! how she kissed niles goodbye, oh! i loved it when fran was in the seaport, and the policeman asked,"were u ment to be on that ship?", and fran said"i guess not"(or something like that) she seemed very upset, but i think on the inside she was happy.( ok, now i'm talking about her like about a real person) the whole episode is very sad. when she comes home she starts crying. i both do and do not understand why. i mean, she did miss a chance for a happy life, but if she thought of it,would fran be happy with nigel?she would miss max and the kids(especially max) Still,it's not like she would be a misrable ceature with max.she loved him,he loved her, what else did se need?-- to get married? well max did propose eventually.anyway, i think when she saw max, it made her feel better, because she understood, that not her whole life was thrown away. she just had to wait a little more, that's all. i don't know if it was good or not to break the moment with max going for ice and fran running into his office to get the note. i could survive without that. surely, in this last scene, max showed fran how much he cared for her. very nice! this whole sadness will always be my favourite part, no matter what you say!i love it, and no one can take it away from me!i just ant to thank diane wilk for this wonderful episode--a miracle episode! you are the best!thank you so much for doing all thins work, and makih=ng so many people happy!

this is the best episode, and i have a poem on the nanny
the nanny is the best
mr.sheffield needs a rest
sylvia is very happy
niles surely needs a nappy
cc's very very sorry,
but she'll soon find her glory
gracie's therapy is working
cause of brighton maggie's choking!
now that family is cool
max and fran and everybody rule!
ok, that's the poem! anyway, this episode is really great i love it all!

I loved it. It was a good story. I am very glad Fran didnt get on that ship because we all know it wasnt meant to be with Nigel...duh! Well I loved the part at the very end When maxwell goes"You do know it was you other foot?" Cute,Cute,CUTE!! But when is Maxwell not cute??

I LOVE this ep. Itīs one of my favorites. So very romantic. It was a little bit sad , everybody ( of my friends ) cry in this one. The Bee Gees wrote this song for this ep. I wonder what would Max do if she really leaves........

I LOVE this ep. A very good option after the Taxman ep. This great episode can fit in every single mood. I think this is the one when Fran is totally convinced that Max is the only one for her, and that the kids, Niles and him are her family. Those words Max said after Fran comes back can explain that they are truly, madly and deeply in love. I give this episode a TEN.

How romantic! Although it was clear that Fran would not get on the ship, it still was very moving and somehow a bit sad to see her leaving, with the letter for Max, kissing Niles goodbye etc. And the end showed how much Max really cares for her. Fran's "Boy do you ever" line was one of the cutest of the whole show. And yet she ran into the office to get the goodbye note so that Max wouldn't notice. I suppose she wasn't 100 per cent sure of her feelings herself. I definitely give this episode a 10.

All I can say, is this is, in my opinion, the BEST episode of The Nanny! 10's all around!!! I'm just wondering who on earth would give this ep some of those 8's...

This is my favorite nanny episode ever! I don't even know why, but I think that this won should have won awards!

It was a great episode. Poor Max, I can not believe Fran picked Nigel over him(don't get me wrong, Nigel rocks). But the only downfall was it wasn't very funny.

Love this ep!!!

this is my verry favorite show and i love all the eps,but this one was really cute, sad, and real, so ...boy it was the best one ..i didn't really expect less from the nanny i know they always do their best and it really shows. now that the show is over i fell that max and fran are still alive and that they'll be happy forever .back to the ep it was so cool and i love it.

how we miss Diane Wilk! This was the best episode ever written, acted, everything! this was the one episode that really displayed fran's abilities. i can't say enough a bout this one. the song, the montage scene is so touching! TEN TEN TEN

Sort of a slow start but definitely worth the wait! Niles tries to warn Max about Nigel & Fran's relationship with the 'slip through Namby-Pamby fingers' line, but Max just doesn't get it! The montage is s-o-o-o romantic- it breaks my heart to see Fran leaving. After, when Max comes in, the first thing he says is he's missed her. I know there's lots of speculation about why she starts to cry, but I think it's because she realizes what she almost lost. The GWTW ending was too cute as was her ploy in the tag scene to get Max to carry her to dinner. Notice how he still picked her up even though he was on to her? And I didn't hear him complaining! I think Fran finally realized she'd never be happy with anyone else. VERY ROMANTIC! (SIGH!)

Just one word for this one: WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE FRAN FINE "DRESCHER"

One of my favorites. It had a bit of everything -- comedy, drama, romance and what great song choices for the whole 'Fran leaving' scenes. It's one of a few episodes that brought tears to my eyes. (It's also good to see more people commenting here again - it seems that the most popular episodes lots comment on and the less popular ones they don't!)

The most cute of the fourth season and maybe of the show. Max, Fran and Nigel: WOW!! I definetely give this one TEN. I can say that " Our Love" is now one of my favorites. Thanks a lot to the Nanny and Diane Wilk for this abosolutely wonderul episode.

It does'nt have enough spark and flare between Fran and Nigel. They needed to show more of them together and a little more suspense of Mr. Sheffield finding out.

The greatest!!!! It was very real and I love that. Very funny and romantic.

this is my very favourite episode!do you know y? cause this is the one i saw first. i didn't know what to watch, and so i found channel fox5, and there it was: fran was standing and crying, because the ship left. i thought" oh this is great, so sad,i like it! so then i watched to the end, and when i saw all the romantic stuff,i decided that i'd watch this show.and this is how my story begins! thank you, diane wilk for writing this episode. thank you!

4.9 Tattoo

Fran lets it slip that she had gotten a tattoo as a teenager and Sylvia is furious. Maggie is envious of it, and Maxwell is curious and finds it alluring. Written by: Caryn Lucas. Dr. Roberts: John Astin, Tattoo Lady: Sally Kirkland.

Our responses (47) gave the episode a 8.3 overall, a 8.5 for the comedy, and a 8.5 for romance.

I was dissapointed when Fran didn't go swimming with Maxwell. It ruined the whole episode.

Iīm really a big Fan from the soap "The Nanny". But i found it was to short,if i saw the soap i was everytime happy. Please doing more soaps from "The Nanny".

Wonderful episode; I enjoyed it very much!

this episode was great, wasn't it?

Gotta love this one!

i loved this episode the first time i saw it. I remember when i saw the ping pong scene and i though it was great, it was so funny it took me a minute to realize what had happenend.

Very funny. I absolutely love it. Maxīs curious itīs the best.

GREAT!!!!!!

Funny!!! I loved the ping pong game...that was so cool! Anyways, I didn't really like the episode because it didn't have anything too it, but they can sure play one hella ping pong game...

This one was a good comic episode. Maxwell's preoccupation and frustration regarding where Fran's tattoo was located was quite funny and the ping pong scene was hilarious.

What a "ping pong" scene! And how insightful Grace was (before she went to sleep) about change and its possible effects.

yeah, this episode was good! ithought it had allin it--comedy,ramance, everythin! it's funny how max is interested in fran's tattoo. it was also funny at the very end when fran got her tattoo taken off!

I love this episode, the best part is when Max and Fran are at the pool!!!

I was just watching some old episodes last night and watched this one again. I LOVE the "ping pong game" This is a great episode!

I luuuv this one!!! Gotta be one of my favourites "Here's Tattoo, I mean to you" LOL!!!!! Max is really different in this one, Fran was great, Niles was great, CC was great, the kids were great. Damn, if only Grace hadn't talked to Fran who know's what coulda happened!! I mean, how could ya not luv this one?

One of my favourite episodes. In every rating I gave a ten. It is so funny as Niles tries to tell Max about Franīs tattoo without speaking. And what could we say about these many funny-erotic scenes for example as Fran asks Max for his opinion concerning tattoos or their conversation near the pool and of course the ping-pong-play!One of the absolutely best eps which shows one more time what a perfect couple Fran and Max are! I could kiss them both.

This was jsut not one of those "Oh, wow" episodes. However, during the pingpong game, I put my hands over my eyes!

Another great one. I knew there were good eps in season 4, just not enough of them. Loved Sylvia and the cemetary bit. And Fran with Val "Mr. Sheffield could see ya." "Not if you don't move Val!" Couldn't you just strangle Grace? Ya think she knew exactly what was going on on the terrace? But it was sweet of Fran to put Grace's feelings ahead of her own. Interesting game of ping pong too.

Fabulous.

Very funny and cute ,and I liked because Max is complete in love with Fran . Why he just admit ? That tattoo drive him crazy ! hehehhehehehe :)

This one's a funny one for the most part, although I didn't like John Astin as the doctor (either time he was on!). My favorite scene was the one with Fran and Gracie in the bedroom.

Gotta love this one, itīs very cool. Love the ping-pong game and Maxīs curious.

I liked the kitchen scene when they all find out about Fran's tattoo. And the office scene when Max and Niles ogle her. The ping pong scene was hilarious!
