[Editor's note: The following was written in response to a letter in which Fran was described as "very pretty." I don't believe the author of that note has used those words again!] "Ode to Fran's Voice" IMHO Very pretty hardly does Fran justice. She IS beautiful, and to my Anglo Saxon eyes she is almost an exotic beauty, the type of beauty that will improve with age. What are her best features? Pick! She has great hair, great features, great body (although she could stand to put on a little weight) and that voice! Variously described as nasal, whiney, or just plain annoying, of course it is none of these. It is spectacular, full of shade and texture, at it's best in it's lower ranges where it soft and sexy, and the upper ranges where it carries like a bell. Yeah, Ok the mid ranges can be a acquired taste, but what other voice stays with you like a catchy tune? Who can remember normal voices? Can any one say they can remember what Helen Hunt sounds like five minutes after? And that laugh is something else; the sound of a fog horn or the honk of a manic goose, it is unique, from the ubiquitous AH! HAA! and the cackle of the AHH ha ha ha ha ha, to my favourite the cute little giggle, often used like a drum fill between the normal conversation. But all this is just stating the obvious. I don't think we have yet seen the best of Fran Drescher. She is now great comedy actress, but in later years that is (if she decides to come out from behind the cameras) we may also see a great dramatic actress. Am I raving???????.... Nah!
